She shrugged, and a mischievous smirk pulled at her lips. “What? I woke up and was getting ready to come back down here. I checked the camera first and watched the whole thing.”

I let out an exaggerated breath. “So you could’ve stepped in and stopped the whole awkward encounter.”

“It didn’t look awkward to me. It looked like sexual tension and I, for one, am all for you and Cam being a thing.”

“Cam doesn’t do relationships,” I reminded her.

“He just hasn’t found the right girl yet.”

“And that’s me?”

“I think it could be.” She shrugged. “I’m telling you, Cam doesn’t do any sort of PDA. The fact he kissed you not once but twice in public is huge. Ask any girl in town. He doesn’t do that. He has a thing for you.”

“How many girls in this town have a thing for him?” I asked, focusing on the stubborn spot I’d been scrubbing on the counter. My grip tightened around the rag. My blue nail polish had already started chipping.

“The only girl that matters if she has a thing for him is standing in this room.” She cocked her head to the side, studying me. “Are you really asking how many he’s been with?”

“Maybe?”

“Honestly?” She scrunched her nose and thought about it before answering. “I’m not sure. Everyone says he’s a player, and I know he has had his share of one-night stands, but I don’t think it’s as many as some would lead you to believe. I think some girls claim they slept with him to hide their wounded pride from being turned down. He’s just too nice to say the opposite.”

“He’s never had a real relationship?” Might as well get the information from someone other than a gossipy nurse.

“No. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want one. He’s just picky.”

I rolled my eyes. “You really want me to give him a chance, don’t you?”

“I would like my brother to date someone that I like, and that was my friend first,” she said, and I chuckled. “But seriously, don’t listen to what other people say. He’s a great guy.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” And I would, but I knew it was his sister, and she believed the best of him.

“Also, make him work for it.” She wiggled her brows, and I tossed the rag at her.

CHAPTER FOUR

STEPHANIE

“Doyou want to go to the Memorial Day Festival with me tonight?” Haley asked through the speakerphone as I folded laundry. I hadn’t done much since I got home from the coffee shop.

“Who’s all going?” I asked. Rylie and Mason were on their honeymoon, so they were out.

“Asher, Nix, Melanie, and Andrew.” Basically, Mason’s entire family, which would seem weird if it weren’t for the fact Haley was secretly in love with Asher. “Please? It will be so much fun.”

I’m sure it would be. I’d never been to a fair with rides, live music, and carnival food. I chewed on my bottom lip. I didn’t want to be a third wheel or encroach on their family time. “Are you sure I won’t be intruding?”

“Of course not. Asher and Nix invited me. I would love for you to come. I want to pop your festival cherry.”

“You’re terrible.” I rolled my eyes, but my face heated, and I wasn’t even sure why. I wasn’tthatinnocent. For some reason, I still blushed when she said things like that.

I’d never forget the dick pic conversation that took place in front of Mason, Cam, and Rylie’s parents. It was so embarrassing, and I swear Haley started it just to see me blush.

“Do you not want to be alone with Ash?” I bit back my smile. I could already picture her rolling her eyes.

Haley huffed. “That’s not why I’m asking you if you want to go.”

“I know. I was just kidding. What time are you going?”

“We’re heading over at seven. It’s the first night of the festival, so there’s a live band and a firework show tonight.”
