He pumped a fist in the air, jumped up, and laced our fingers together before I could change my mind. My muscles went rigid as I reluctantly let him drag me to the dance floor. With one hand tucked in his, Cam pulled me close; my body lined up with his. Every hard muscle pressed against me.
He definitely kept in good shape.
I sucked in a deep breath, willing myself to relax. To loosen up. My palm slid up his hard chest and wrapped around the back of his neck as we slowly swayed to the music. A strong grip flexed around my waist as I toyed with the soft brown hair at the base of his neck. Even in my heels, Cam was a good half-foot taller than me.
“Have I told you today that you look beautiful?” he asked.
I tucked my chin. “Has anyone told you that you’re a charmer?”
“I’m serious, Steph. You look amazing.”
A smile tugged at the corner of my lips. It wasn’t the first time he called me beautiful. Honestly, it was a normal occurrence for him, but it always made my heart beat faster. “Thank you.”
He removed a hand from my waist and placed a finger under my chin, lifting my gaze to his. “You’re the most beautiful girl here.”
I rolled my eyes. “Alright. You already have me on the dance floor. You don’t have to lay it on that thick.”
“One day, you’ll believe me.” He snatched one of my hands from his neck and twirled me before pulling me back snug against him. “I love your hair this color.”
“Thank you.”
Once I settled into my new life in Sweet Springs, I colored my naturally dark brown hair. Every time I caught myself in a mirror, flashbacks of the night I left hit me, and I couldn’t stand it anymore, so I changed my hair. A completely different look for a completely different life. It took me a while to get used to the blonde, but eventually, it grew on me.
Recently, I’d been missing the girl I used to be. The carefree one. The one I was before life cut me down so hard. So after almost an entire year of being blonde, I changed it back to a dark chocolate brown.
I wanted to be comfortable in my skin again.
The DJ put on another slow song. I didn’t make a move to leave the dance floor. I liked the way his touch felt. It had been too long since I’d let someone hold me.
“What are you doing after this?” Cam whispered in my ear before dipping me, making me giggle.
“After the reception?”
He nodded, pulling me back up. “Yeah. Wanna go grab something to eat?”
“I think I’m just gonna head back up to my room.”
“How about breakfast then?”
I stopped moving. “Camden.”
“Stephanie,” he responded, voice amused.
“I don’t think that would be a good idea.”
He tilted his head to the side. “Why not?”
“People would get the wrong idea if we showed up for breakfast together.”
“What kind of idea would that be?”
I narrowed my eyes, giving him a ‘you have got to be kidding me’ look. “You know exactly what people would say.”
“Would it be such a bad thing if people thought we were together?” He asked.
My heart kicked in my chest.Stop it.“We’re not together, though.”
“We could change that.” He bent his neck, bringing his lips closer to my ear. “I could walk you to your door.” Warm breath fleeted across my skin, leaving goosebumps in its wake. “I could kiss you goodnight. We could go to breakfast together. Go on a date.”Dang, he was good.
