Like a sexy predator.
“I thought I said no marshmallow guns?” He stepped toward me and I backed around the coffee table, biting my lip innocently.
“You never said I couldn’t buy one for her.”
“It’s the same thing.” He pointed a finger at me. Dark brown eyes glimmered as he kept prowling toward me.
“Sorry?” I lifted my hands, and he lunged for me. His strong arms wrapped around my waist as we fell, a tangled mess, onto the couch. Asher landed on top of me, and my heart pounded erratically as he pushed a piece of hair from my face.
“You’re not sorry.” His hard chest vibrated with each word. Warm breath tickled my lips and mixed with mine.
I shook my head. “Not even a little,” I whispered, nibbling on my bottom lip before soothing it with my tongue. Asher’s eyes darkened as they followed the movement. It would only take a little dip of his head and he would be kissing me. A zap of desire shot between my thighs.
His eyes searched my face as he cupped my jaw with a featherlight touch. A low groan rumbled through his broad chest. He slowly dipped his head closer, rubbing his nose against mine. My eyes fluttered shut. His lower lip feathered across mine right before he suddenly jumped up and bolted to the other side of the room.
“Daddy, do you want a cookie?” Nix asked, walking back into the living room.
“Sure, bug.” He nodded and smiled at her. His jaw flexed tight. “Did you wash your hands?”
“Yep!” She skipped back into the kitchen as I sat up on the couch, rubbing the back of my neck.
“I’m sorry,” I said. “I should probably go.” I stood, looking around nervously for my bag. We’d crossed the unspoken friendship line again and he was sure to back off awkwardly.
“You don’t need to leave,” Asher sighed. “I’m sorry about tackling you.”
I forced a laugh. “Eh. It’s fine. In these jeans, I’d tackle me too.” I awkwardly glanced over my shoulder trying to see my ass. I didn’t need to though, because I already knew my ass looked amazing.
Asher pushed his hair back, his eyes flaring with something like heat. “Seriously, stay. We’ll watch a movie.”
I bit the inside of my cheek and let out a deep breath. “Okay.”
Like I could say no.
CHAPTER TWO
ASHER
My grip tightenedon the whiskey glass as I watched Donovan hit on Haley. Reaching up, I loosened my tie. I couldn’t blame the guy. Hales looked damn gorgeous, as always, but he shouldn’t be that fucking close to her. My chest relaxed some as she smiled at him.
It didn’t reach her eyes.
I smirked. She was placating him.
The poor bastard.
Normally, I didn’t let my eyes roam when it came to Haley, because when I did, I it became even harder to resist pulling her to the closest room and ravaging her.
But tonight? I couldn’t help myself from staring.
I asked her to be my date to one of my best friend’s wedding a couple of months ago. I was a groomsman, so she arrived separately, and I hadn’t seen her until the ceremony. I was supposed to be paying attention to my friend getting married, but I couldn’t take my eyes offher.
Haley was gorgeous on a normal day. She’s stolen my fucking breath on more than one occasion, but today? Fuck, today I couldn’t tear my eyes away. I don’t know if was the whiskey, or the fact I almost kissed her again, but I didn’t want her out of my sight.
And I for-fucking-sure didn’t want pencil dick Donovan anywhere near her.
I hated the guy.
My eyes trailed over her for the hundredth time. The nude heels made her short legs look miles long. A sapphire blue dress started mid-thigh and hugged every curve, clinging to her perfect ass. The open back showcased creamy, flawless skin, and I wanted to run my hands and mouth over every inch. She flipped her long blonde waves over one shoulder, turning toward me with a small- teasing smile. Those beautiful blue eyes sparkled through long, dark lashes as they met mine across the room.
