“Thank you. Was that so hard?” The corners of her blue eyes crinkled.

“Something is going to be hard if we don’t stop talking about your ass.”

She bit her bottom lip as her gaze dropped to my dick which twitched from the attention. “That sounds like it could be fun.”

I growled. “Haley.”

“What?”

“Stop avoiding.”

She sighed. “Okay. What are you really sorry about?”

“Stella.” And just like that. My amazingly strong independent girl retreated back into her shell. The way her beautiful blue eyes dimmed told me it was a sore subject even if she tried to play if off like it wasn’t. Haley sat up a little straighter. I brushed back a piece of hair that had fall in her face before catching her chin between my thumb and pointer finger, tilting her face up so she could see how serious I was. “I’m sorry for the way she acted.”

“You can’t control how someone else act, Ash.” She patted my chest, and I relaxed the slightest bit. She was right, but it still didn’t sit well.

“Okay, then I’m sorry for not shoving her out the door and eating lunch with you.”

Her cheek twitched. “While that would’ve been entertaining, I don’t want you to burn any bridges with Carrie’s family for me. They’re Phoenix’s blood. I’ll be fine.”

Of course, she would be, however, for the first time in a long time, I was truly happy. Having Haley by my side made me happy. I loved being a dad, but I’d been missing something. I didn’t know it at first, but it had always been Hales. She was the missing piece. “But I won’t be. I’ll talk to her. See why see brushed you off.”

“You really don’t need to do that. I’m a big girl. I can handle someone not liking me,” she promised.

My jaw ticked. “She doesn’t not like you.”

Hales gave me a look that said I was crazy. “She doesn’t like me. I’m sure it’s hard on some level for Carrie’s family to see you with someone else, even if they want you to move on.”

Maybe she was right. Granted Stella and Carrie weren’t that close. At least not that I knew of. “You promise you’re okay?”

“I promise. She won’t come between us again.” I let out a sigh of relief as I pressed my lips to hers.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

HALEY

Asher wrappedhis arms around my waist from behind as I double checked that I had packed everything in my camera bag for the trip. Nothing sucked more than being five hours away to shoot a wedding and realizing you were missing one of your lenses.

“Are you sure you have to go?” He nuzzled the crook of my neck. His scruff making my entire body shiver. I sighed, leaning my head back against his shoulder as he continued to drive me insane. Rough fingers dipped just below the edge of my jeans.

A low groan escaped him as I turned my head, tilting my lips up to meet his. I tugged on his hair as he spun me, pinning me against the dresser. “What time does your flight leave?”

“Six.”

“We have time.”

“What about Nix?”

“She’s still asleep, but just to be safe.” He leaned over, flipping the lock on the bedroom door. Coming back to me, his popped the button on my jeans open. Dropping to his knees in front of me, he tore them down my legs in a hurry. “No underwear, Hales? You’re going to kill me,” he said roughly. Asher squeezed my hips, his fingers digging into my skin as his mouth trailed along my stomach and down to the spot I needed him most. He stopped; his dark eyes full of heat. His hot gaze stayed on mine as he drug his nose along my slit. His tongue peaked and pressed against my clit.

I moaned.

Loudly.

Asher grinned. Standing, he gripped my hips and turned me back around to face the mirror. He placed my hands on the top of the dresser. “Keep them there.”

He met my eyes in the mirror. “Don’t move, babe.” He growled, pressing his boxer covered cock into my ass. We still hadn’t had sex and I didn’t think either of us wanted to rush through it this morning even though I really wanted to feel him inside of me. One hand slipped around my hips, between my legs as he began teasing me. The other slid up my body, over my shirt. He squeezed my breast before wrapping his hand around my throat.
