“What surprise?”
“You’ll just have to come home with me and see.”
I nod, swallowing roughly, pushing away from the bar top and leaning into him as he guides me through the crowd and toward the exit. Ollie is nowhere to be found, and I lost Izzy a while ago. I’ll just message them later to let them know I’ve left. I don’t think they’ll care either way.
“You leaving?” Killian asks Alec as we push through the crowd. His eyes are narrowed on the two of us pressed together and his cheeks are painted a dark red.
“Yeah,” Alec says and then pats him on the shoulder as we pass by. “See ya later, man.”
Killian folds his arms across his chest, a scoff leaving his mouth. But I’m too far gone to pay it any mind. I just know that Alec is leaving withme. Not anyone else. For some reason, in this moment, the way he ignored me all night dissipates. I forget it all.
He leads me to his car in silence, his arm wrapped around my shoulders. I do my best not to sniff him, to inhale the intoxicating scent that is solely Alec. I noticed it the first day I got down on my knees for him and it hasn’t left my senses.
He’s potent.
“In you go,” he says as he opens the passenger door for me. I slide inside without a word, and once I’m settled, I realize I’m a dumbass. It’s almost like being apart from him has cleared the haze that surrounded me seconds ago.
My mind reels. Alec invited me to this show tonight and then as soon as my gaze settled on him, he proceeded to ignore me all night. It almost feels like a game to him, like I’m nothing but a prize in some sick, twisted contest. But at the same time, I’m so damn relieved he’s giving me the time of day, so relieved I’m the one in his car and not Killian.
Fuck, I’m conflicted.
My trembling hands buckle myself in as he slides into the driver’s seat, the heat automatically turning on and making my already overly warm body nearly sizzle. I could cook an egg on my pecs right now, I swear.
“So, that surprise is at my place,” he tells me as he pulls out of the parking lot. I nod and in a moment of sanity, I remember my friends and shoot them a short message, letting them know I’ve left before focusing back on the man in the driver’s seat.
Alec’s fingers are tapping a rhythm on the steering wheel, and I watch as he pulls those lips between his teeth, sucking on them, wetting them with his tongue. He’s making me all sorts of unreasonable and horny.
Maybe, just maybe, I’m not as straight as I think.
My niece and nephews make an abrupt appearance in my mind, and I push that traitorous thought away.
No. It’s just a hobby. A fun hobby that I really like.
It’s nothing more.
And yet even though those words echo in my mind, I’m not completely convinced.
“How much longer?” I ask, fidgeting in my seat.
“Twenty minutes or so.”
“Okay.”
“You can’t wait, huh?” he asks, a smirk pulling his lips up.
I sigh and shake my head. “Just so you know, I’m the most patient person on earth.”
He snorts a small laugh. “Yeah, no, you’re not. I know you.”
“You’ve known me like what, a few weeks? You don’t know me, man.”
His cheeks flush and he clears his throat. “Yeah, you’re right. I don’t.”
Scoffing, I turn my gaze out the window and try to play it cool. The longer I look away from him, the more sanity slips into my brain. Really, he’s treated me like shit all evening, only showing up to talk to me when he was ready to leave. As little bits of reality seep into my mind, my mood plummets.
What the hell am I doing? If anyone else was doing this shit and behaving this way, I’d warn them against going through with it. Yet, here I am. I got in his car and am headed to his place. Like a chump.
“What’s wrong?” he asks as we stop at a red light.
