“I do.”
CHAPTER 40
Honey
Dawson has invited me to his house. I was surprised when the text came through. I didn’t expect it nor reciprocate the picture of his cock. I’m staring at the screen, my head tilting as I gnaw on my bottom lip. I have girlfriends who have told me they hate receiving dick pics, but they’ve obviously never been sent the right one.
I’m leaving shortly, but I’m tempted to pull out my vibrator first. I look at my top drawer thoughtfully. I mean, I still have an hour until I need to leave, right? So why not?
But just as I’ve decided to go for it, my sister walks out of my wardrobe triumphantly. I quickly close my screen.
“Aha! I knew you stole it,” she says, holding up one of her shirts.
“You can’t just assume it’s yours because it’s black, Rya.” Black is basically the only color she wears.
She gives me a stern expression, and I look away with my tongue in my cheek. It actually is hers.
“Are you sure this is the right thing to do?” she asks as I apply my lipstick. She has the afternoon off from work and came down to speak to me and, of course, drill me about Dawson before she leaves for her belated honeymoon with Crue.
“What?” I reply, playing dumb.
“I know you’re going to see him.”
I smile in the mirror. “How do you know that?”
“Honey, you care what your parents think. It’s always been how you are. Our father arrives here tomorrow. How do you think you’ll explain to him that you’re seeing someone he dislikes?”
“I don’t. I won’t tell him,” I say, shrugging.
“If he sees you two together, he’ll work it out. He’s a smart man.”
“I know. He just needs to get to know Dawson better.”
“You are Daddy’s little princess, Honey, and you always have been. I rebelled, and you stayed glued to him. He won’t take this easily, and Crue and I will be away, so no backup from us.”
“I won’t need backup.”
She coughs “bullshit” under her breath.
I roll my eyes. “If you say so.”
She walks into the bathroom andhugs me from behind. It’s nice because she’s not one to often offer physical affection. “Just be safe, okay? I get it’s all exciting, and sex is fun, but just because you’re having great sex with him doesn’t mean you won’t with someone else.” I feel my cheeks redden at her words.
The only person I have really spoken with regarding sex is Dawson. I feel comfortable talking with him about all those things, and I know that’s probably a weird thing to do, but who better to discuss it with than someone who sells it for a living? And he listens to me without judgment despite the fact I’m sleeping with him.
“I’m going back upstairs. Call me if you need anything,” she says.
“Oooh, I’ll be up shortly to grab my baking tray before you go. I only have one.”
Rya rolls her eyes. “Shouldn’t you own like a million of those?”
“No, I only have the ones I stole from your kitchen. And besides, I’m a woman on a budget.”
She shakes her head and leaves as I touch up my mascara.
I’m unsure if I should go to his house late or early because I’m eager to see where he lives. He’s been to my place multiple times, and I haven’t once seen where he lives, and I’m curious.
I put my mascara away. It doesn’t take away the nerves of my father and mother coming to New York. I’ve only just started feeling like I’m establishing a new life, and I know they’ll try to convince me to return toItaly. And if Dawson comes around when my father is here, I’m outright terrified my father might shoot him.
