“You’re wrong, these trials are going to test his loyalty to our brothers.”

“What do you mean?”

“He’s going to have to choose between saving you and saving them.”

“Oh please, he’s going to save them and make sure I lose.”

“If that were the case, darlin’, he would have killed you the moment he met you like he was meant to.” My phone begins to vibrate in my pocket. I fish it out to end the call and continue listening in but when I see it’s Costa, I know I have to answer so I quickly dash away from them and head back to my bike.

I answer the call when I am far enough away that they won’t hear me. “Yeah?”

“The trials begin tonight, get your twin and be ready for the call.” He ends the call as I stand here at a loss for words, I thought we had more time. Adonis, Apollo and Ares aren’t ready. I give myself a minute to sort my fucking head out before I call Cronos as I get on my bike.

“What?” he snaps.

“Get her back to school now.”

“Why?”

“She needs to prepare.”

“They begin tonight?”

“Yes,” I clip out in annoyance.

“We'll be back in an hour.” Before he can end the call I speak.

“Cronos?”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t ever fucking touch my girl like that again. I’d hate to have to kill my own twin.” I end the call and break every speed limit known to man as I race back to Blackwood to warn my brothers and try to prepare them for the first trial.

God help us.

I push every thought of London from my mind and focus on the need to protect my brothers, they are my main priority here and not her. She has her own family to worry about her, not me… But, they aren’t here, or maybe…

I race through the side door of Blackwood that the staff use and ignore some of them sitting around eating dinner in the staff room as I head for the nurses office. I burst through the door without knocking. Max spins around and glares at me.

“Mr Argyros, I am with a patient right now, you need to wait outside.” I look over her shoulder and see it’s Blake who is sleeping, I grab Max’s arm and drag her from her office leading her toward mine ignoring her protests. I push her inside my office and close the door behind us. “What the fuck do you think you are doing?” she shouts.

“Trying to save London’s life.” Her mouth snaps shut, she tries to mask her worry but I see it in her eyes.

“Who is she to you?”

“No one.”

“You answered that way too quickly, you either tell me now or she is on her own.”

“Why the fuck should I trust you?”

“Because she reacted to you today. London doesn’t react to anyone but today she did. I could see the happiness in her eyes when she saw you. Her mask fell and I saw everything. Now, I am going to ask you again, who the fuck are you to her?” I can see the war in her eyes, she is debating if she should tell me or not so I give it one last shot. “The trials begin tonight, Miss Kingsley. I cannot protect her and save my brother’s at the same time but I can swing it so I can bring the school nurse, in case of an injury.”

My words seem to be her undoing. “What assurance do I have that you can keep my identity a secret and not betray me?”

“Max, I know you know that I am sleeping with a student.” She purses her lips and narrows her eyes. “At any given moment you could call her father and rat me out, he would be well within his rights to kill me. The only reason I can think of why you didn’t do that today is because you don’t want to hurt her by killing me.”

“How do you know that?”
