Page 17 of His Sacrifice
“I need to go take care of Serafina.” He glanced at his watch. “Give me an hour and we’ll meet you upstairs.” I nodded as he walked to the door. He stopped and buttoned his jacket. “Moreno knew he was screwed at his son’s outburst, so it didn’t take long for him to admit to the hit on Serafina’s family. He’s all yours.”
Smiling, I slipped off my jacket and rolled up the sleeves of my white shirt. Christmas came early this year. Not only did I have Serafina, but with a stroke of my pen, I owned half of Philly, with all the families’ backing. As if that wasn’t good enough, Moreno was here, strung up in front of me.
He woke up and met my gaze. “You stupid boy,” he spat.
“You call me stupid, but I’m not the one dying today.”
This man had ripped Serafina’s life away, and starting today, I’d begin giving it back.
Moreno lunged at her but tripped over his feet and fell on his face. Her expression was guarded as she carefully stepped back. The guards grabbed Moreno and pulled him back. Her gaze didn’t leave mine as I walked toward her.
“Enzo?”
I pulled her toward me, not concerned about the blood I was getting on her dress. “Wife?” I raised my brow.
“Wife?” she whispered and glanced toward our father, who smiled, turned, and left us.
I captured her lips with mine. It took a moment for her to relax in my arms as my hand trailed down to her hip. She was mine and nothing or no one would ever get in my way.
I nudged my knee between her legs as I moved my hand down her thigh to the hem of her dress. She looked like a damn virgin in it. I wrapped my hand around the hilt of her dagger and stepped back, her eyes flying wide when I flashed it in front of her.
"Haven't we talked about this?"
She bit her lip and gave me a coy smile. "Always carry protection?"
I ran my gaze over her delectable body. Moreno’s blood had transferred from me to her. She’d never looked so beautiful as she did right then, covered in the blood of her enemy.
"Caught up now?"
"I'm not sure." She glanced back at Moreno.
Reluctantly, I released her and motioned for the guards to step back. When they did, I slipped around the back of our prisoner, gripped his hair, and yanked it until he was staring eye to eye with Sera.
"This man ordered the hit on your family and was trying to manipulate things, so you'd have to marry Tony."
He struggled weakly in my grip but was no match for my strength. Her jaw tightened, as did her fists.
"He's lied to us and played us a fool."
Moreno spat on the ground. "Rosetta got what was coming to him. You were supposed to be ours, but he pledged you to the Casellas."
I watched her fume as she walked around Moreno and dug her stiletto heel into his calf, twisting it. What Moreno didn't know was that my marriage to Sera had been set in place the day she was born. They'd only announced it after several families started inquiring. Her father had wanted her to have as normal of a life as she could growing up in our world. It was supposed to be kept quiet until she turned eighteen, but families like the Morenos had pushed. While most were fine with the decision, they hadn't been, and lashed out.
He tried to move, but I held him in place.
"Did you know?" she asked, searching.
"If I'd had the proof, he'd have been dead a long time ago."
She nodded, rotated her heel again, and put her hand out for her dagger. I handed it to her without hesitation, excited to see what she'd do. I'd wanted to end the bastard but also didn't want to take that from her. I wanted her to have the world, and I would lay it down at her feet.
She bent over him and pushed the edge of her dagger into his cheek.
"You don't have what it takes," Moreno grumbled. "Just like your mother, nothing but a fucking tease."
She didn't flinch when she dragged the knife down his flesh, never looking away. "I am not a pawn in your fucking games, and I'm not something you can sacrifice and toss away."
Moreno opened his mouth to say something, but before I could blink, she ran the dagger across his neck, blood spraying across her dress.
