Chapter 17

Polly

“Welcome to Salem” the sign read as they drove by.

Polly turned to Flynn. “Are you serious?”

Flynn smiled. “Yep. Welcome to Salem.”

“This is why none of your itinerary made sense.”

Flynn laughed. “Maybe.”

Flynn found a parking spot for their rental car and held her hand as they walked through the city.

They visited the Witch Dungeon Museum, the Witch House, the House of the Seven Gables, and the cemetery beside the Salem Witch trial memorials. They shopped in charming stores and even toured a life-sized pirate ship. Flynn bought her a beautiful necklace meant to repel negative energy, and she melted when he insisted on clasping it around her neck the first time.

“This is fantastic, Flynn. I never thought of coming here.”

“I hoped you’d enjoy it. I know you planned to tour Boston, but I thought you could use a little magic, too.”

They went into a cute, rustic restaurant and sat at a table in the back. They ordered a wood-fired pizza and settled in to wait. Luckily, none of the patrons recognized them.

“You flew in, right? Where did you fly from?” Polly asked. She took a drink of her sweet tea.

“Seattle. We played a show there a couple of days ago. We’ve got a few days down the east coast now before we break again.”

“Did you sight-see around Seattle?”

Flynn smiled and shook his head. “No. I want to see it with you so I waited.”

“Aww, Flynn. You should get out and see what you can. I don’t know when I’ll get to Seattle.”

“I don’t have the photographer’s eye like you do. I have more fun sight-seeing with you. It’ll be worth the wait. I intend to have dinner with you in the Lounge at the Space Needle sometime.”

“I do want to visit there. I’ll bet it’s beautiful.”

“We’ll find out together.”

The server brought their pizza, which smelled of delicious baked crust and alfredo sauce.

“One forest mushroom pizza. Roasted garlic alfredo sauce, arugula, wood fired mushrooms, and fresh mozzarella and romano. Enjoy.”

“Thank you,” Flynn said. The server turned and left. “This looks great.”

“It does.” Polly picked up a slice and took a bite. The alfredo sauce’s flavor exploded on her tongue. She chewed and swallowed. “It is great. Dig in.”

Flynn tried a bite of pizza and surprise at the delicious flavor flashed across his face.

They chowed down on the pizza and enjoyed the comfortable ambiance at the restaurant.

“Did the band have a problem that you missed sound check?” she asked.

“They were fine with it. I have to be back for the show but someone filled in for sound check.”

“Good. What time do you have to be there for the show?”

“The opening band goes on at 7. I should probably be there around 8.”
