Biting down on her lip, she tried to contain the pleasured moans that were so close. She had always loved it when he devoted time to her neck. The feel of his tongue gliding across the flesh, and then the small bite of pain as he used his teeth. It was enough to drive her insane with need, with longing.
Even now, when she wanted to hate him for all the lies and manipulation, she just couldn’t bring herself to. She was a horrible person.
He let out a groan. It was a deep guttural sound. “I know you, Eve. I know your body, and I am trying to be a good man here. But I know you love it when I touch you. I know you love it when I kiss your neck and even nibble on your pulse, right here.” His teeth grazed that spot and she couldn’t help but moan. “And those sounds. They’re enough to drive a man to distraction, Eve.”
She loved the sounds he made as well, like he couldn’t control himself. Even though he was always able to.
“Tell me to stop, Eve.”
She opened her mouth, about to tell him exactly that, but then nothing came out. Did she want him to stop?
“Fuck, Eve.” He pressed his body against her and she felt the hard ridge of his cock against her stomach. He was so close.
She felt an answering heat between her thighs. She wanted to beg him for more, but even those words failed her.
His hands moved from where they were placed on either side of her head on the door behind her. She felt them on her waist, gliding down to hold her hips. His grip tightened on her and she gritted her teeth together.
Eve knew this was wrong. She knew she wasn’t ready for him to continue and wasn’t ready for him to stop. But, this wasn’t right. Not now, not while she was still learning more about him.
“Stop.”
The word fell from her lips in a whisper. She wasn’t sure if she had said it loud enough for him to hear, but much to her surprise, Grim stopped. He pulled away. Eve was shocked. She didn’t know why, but she expected him to push her boundaries.
Before she could say anything else, something beeped from the kitchen.
“That’s dinner,” he said.
Without another word, he turned on his heel and made his way out of the room, going to the kitchen. Eve knew she should follow, but for now, she had to get herself together. Her nipples were rock-hard points and there was an ache between her thighs. Need had swept over her so swiftly it had shocked her. She didn’t know how she was going to face him.
Grim was right. He knew her and he knew her body. There was nothing he didn’t know about her, because she had been open and honest with him, and that was on her.
Her hands shook a little, and it wasn’t because of fear. Her stomach also chose that moment to growl. She could go back to their room, or even find a spare bedroom. It wouldn’t matter because Grim would find her no matter what.
Eve didn’t want to be stubborn. She was hungry and food hadn’t exactly been forthcoming as she walked the streets. She hadn’t thought about her escape from Grim. Was her life really in that much danger just from being his wife? Eve didn’t know what the truth was anymore and she wasn’t entirely sure she wanted to know.
She made her way to the kitchen and watched as Grim served up two large servings of spaghetti and meatballs, which was her favorite. She had purposefully filled the freezer with pounds of meatballs, along with multiple cans of tomatoes and herbs. She had loved every second of it. While she’d been making the batch for the freezer, she had thought about the children they would have. That seemed like such a distant memory now.
Chapter Four
Stop.
That was all it had taken.
Grim had never been the kind of man who would force himself on a woman. There were limits to what he would do or allow to be done. Yes, he would kill a woman, even torture her, but never to that point. Some may consider his limits a weakness, but he believed they were a strength. Some women would see their bodies as a tool. Grim didn’t even give them that hope.
The moment Eve told him to stop, he had recoiled. Causing his wife pain or discomfort was simply unacceptable to him. He would do anything for her, but he had a feeling she didn’t realize the lengths he would go to protect her. He loved her so completely, and considering he was a monster and had never understood or knew love, those words didn’t come lightly to him.
Grim watched as she twirled the pasta between her fork. She’d been playing with her food for the last two minutes. He had picked meatballs as he knew it was what she liked. The sauce had already been in the oven defrosting and cooking, along with the meatballs. Eve had spent a good hour describing the perfect sauce and meatballs to her. She did like to experiment, trying different ingredients, but that was rare.
Her favorite was always her mother’s recipe and the ultimate comfort food, and he wouldn’t take that away from her. When his wife needed comfort, he would provide it in the best possible way.
He waited until she finally put her fork filled with spaghetti into her mouth, and then he breathed a sigh of relief. After the spaghetti, next went a meatball. She was eating, and now he could relax and eat.
The silence was not welcome. He loved Eve’s constant conversation. She could talk for hours about everything and nothing. He found it rather relaxing. Some men might find it a little irritating, but not him. He loved to hear her voice. But he didn’t know what to say to fill the silence. This just made him wish he’d killed that little bastard slower, so he could have enjoyed it more.
“This is good,” Eve said.
Grim lifted his head. “You cooked it, babe. I just reheated it.”
