“We’re fate, Willow. You can fight it all you like, but in the end, there’s only one outcome.”

We’re destiny…kismet. We’re all these things that weave and twine together until they’re inseparable. One can’t exist without the other, and yet, being together promises pain and heartbreak. That’s what scares me the most because I’ve had a taste of it, and I won’t survive any more of it.

“So, that list of yours,” he says, clearing his throat.

“Mhmm…”

“I sent it over to this place, and they sourced everything you wanted to see. I know it comes at a cost, and I know that you don’t want to let me take that on. So in the spirit of the compromise you keep telling me about, I’ll see your budget. We split the cost that way.”

“Rory, you don’t have to—”

“Yeah, I do have to do this because what’s the point of being who I am and doing what I do if I don’t?”

Before I can argue, Rory’s out of the Range and rounding to my side. He doesn’t wait for me to jump down; instead, he picks me up from the passenger seat and gently sets me on my feet.

“No arguments.” Rory’s got my hand in his as we head towards the two glass doors with a pink-and-blue-striped overhang. “No worrying. Enjoy it.”

It’s all he says before we’re swallowed into the place, and for once, I have no arguments left.
