Checking the little window, I didn’t bother biting back a growl, seeing who it was I left them standing there.

Then I walked back to the dining room and retook my seat, she looked at me and asked, “Who was it?”

Just then there was another knock on her door, and before I could tell her who it was, Caelan called out, loudly, “You fucker. We saw y’all eating. Open the fucking door.”

Birdie started giggling, and when I growled, she started laughing so hard I was afraid she was going to fall out of her chair.

I looked at her, and waited for her to stop laughing, then I said, “As soon as we agree on where we’re living, I’m having an eight-foot wall built around our property and no one is allowed entry but the two of us.

Birdie, she didn’t say a word, she just looked at me, her face got soft, and then she winked, and nodded.

At another knock on the door, I growled again, “They won’t go away. You okay if I let them in?”

She nodded then said, “There’s plenty of food. I made extra.”

With that, I stood up, marched to the door, flipped the lock, opened it, and then headed back to my chair.

The two of them fell into the room like their asses were on fire, Birdie simply smiled, “Plates are in the cabinet by the stove. Forks are in the drawer near the sink. Help yourselves to drinks in the fridge but the glass bottles of coke are off limits.”

Both of them looked at her, then at me, and I saw it on their faces, read it clear as fucking day.

Baker – You let this woman go you’re a goddamned fool.

Caelan – Won’t step in. Won’t steal her from you. But you let her go, I’m making my move.

And with that, they didn’t hesitate to follow her commands.

Fucking bastards.

Needless to say, the alone time I was craving with Birdie was interrupted.

And two days later, every time we made plans something else occurred.

Yes, I gave her a good night kiss when I left her house after I cleaned up her kitchen, and the bastards wouldn’t leave no matter how many hints I threw at them.

And now… well… now I was in what I knew was a Birdie withdrawal.

And I didn’t give a fuck about the group of old women she was taking orders for.

We had been slammed, and we hadn’t been able to say one word to each other, but I couldn’t take it anymore.

That was why I rounded the bar, strode over to her, and when she felt me coming, she turned her head, smiled up at me, and then closed her eyes just as I was leaning in to kiss her.

And kiss her I fucking did.

It was until we pulled away that the women at the table were fanning themselves.

The woman with the red curls mumbled, “If I was twenty years younger, I’d show him how good a cougar can be.”

The woman with the short black hair mumbled, “Honey, if you don’t lock a fine specimen like that down… you’re an idiot.”

The woman with the blonde hair didn’t mumble. Oh no, she didn’t. Rather loudly she said, “Honey, I got a hundred bucks for you if you will lift your shirt up.”

Everyone started laughing, but I looked down at Birdie and lifted my brow at her, she narrowed her eyes, “Don’t you even think about it, Abel Black. That is all mine.”

And with that she spun on heel and headed to the bar, I looked at the women and winked.
