A small smile hit my lips as I thought of Dahlia’s reaction to learning of such a thing. She’d probably compare it to a mate GPS.

I was certain I could track down the spell needed, that I could even perform it, but that would mean Dahlia would have to share this curse with me. I wouldn’t do that to her.

Glancing out the window, I scowled at the darkened sky, frustration getting the better of me. Where was she? I hadn’t seen her since yesterday. She’d spent the night in Hades’s bed, and I’d gotten up early this morning to hunt. I’d hoped to find her at lunch and claim her this afternoon, but she’d had a session with Masterson she couldn’t miss, and then she never showed up for dinner. Thus my growing restlessness.

I paced her room, pervasive growls escaping my throat with each passing moment. Her scent was barely there when it should’ve been all I could smell. Stopping near the foot of the bed, I took stock of the destruction I’d wrought. Embarrassment crept up the back of my neck, hot and stinging.

Gods, I was ridiculous. A child having a tantrum over his favorite lovey. I hated feeling this way, like I was always one step away from losing control. We’d fought so hard to get me here, to a place where I could coexist as both man and beast in an uneasy alliance. I wasn’t fully one or the other, but a blend of the two. Thanks to my Kærasta.

It wouldn’t take much at all to tip the balance, though, and there was doubt who would win if that happened.

Me, the beast snarled in my head.

Fucking hell, I was on the edge. I needed aid because if I lost it and ended up back in No Man’s Land, I’d never come back to myself. One strike, and I’d be out.

I heaved a sigh. It was time for reinforcements. The dragon would know what to do. Better yet, if he had the same reaction to her disappearance as me, then no one could fault me for overreacting.

Tearing out of the room and not bothering to shut her door behind me, I stalked down the hallway toward Kai’s door. A burly shifter named Logan stood in my way as he leaned over a tiny female.

“Move,” I snarled.

He cut me a glance, then returned his attention to her. “Make me.”

Rage turned my vision red. This arse was asking for it. “My pleasure.”

Taking hold of him by the back of the neck, I hurled him to the ground, all but throwing him down the hall. I heard his collision with the floor but didn’t spare him a glance. Not even when he started shouting at me.

“Motherfucking cocksucker! You won’t be smiling when my pack and I come for you in your sleep.”

I stared hard at the female he’d been flirting with. “Muzzle your dog before he ends up with a mouth full of blood instead of teeth.”

She blinked a few times but scurried over to where Logan was pulling himself together and rising to his feet. “You don’t know what you’ve started. This isn’t over, Novasgardian.”

“For your sake, you better hope it is. I let you live. That’s something I rarely do.”

And with those parting words, I made haste to Kai’s room. It was a good thing he answered the door after the first knock. With the unsated bloodlust thumping through my veins, I was liable to tear the fucking door from its hinges.

“What the hell, Tor?” Kai growled, one hand gripping the towel around his waist. “Ye nearly broke the wood pounding on it like that.”

“Is she with you?” I asked, panting for breath.

“Dahlia?”

“Yes, Dahlia, you fucking prat. Who else?”

His eyes flashed with anger, but he didn’t bite back. “She’s not in here. You haven’t seen her?”

I didn’t bother answering the question. Why the fuck would I be here looking for her if I’d seen her?

Genuine worry careened through me. I turned on my heels and stormed away, my next destination not far.

“Where are you going?” Kai demanded from his doorway.

“Cain!”

“Right behind you,” he called after me, shutting the door to presumably get dressed.

My heart was racing, and my legs ate up the distance between Kai’s room and Cain’s. Once again I pounded hard enough to rattle the wood.
