“That’s not how subtext works, Dee.”

A sharp rap on my door had my stupid heart leaping into my throat. Kai hadn’t been gone that long, but already I wanted to see him, or Tor, or Hades, or Cas. Hell, I missed them all. I was an oversexed mess, and I didn’t care one bit.

“Hold that thought,” I said, propping my phone on the desk before rushing to the door.

Instead of one of my handsome men, I found Oz’s handsome Bruno. He gave me a dashing smile and held out a large package.

“It’s not a werewolf torso or something, is it? I told Tor no more bloody souvenirs. And I mean that literally, not in the British sense.”

Bru laughed. “Well, it’s not dripping, so that’s a good sign. Also, it was delivered by a courier, so I think you’re probably safe.”

“It’s the dresses!” Kiki shouted from my phone. “Fashion show! Right now!”

Bruno raised a brow. “I should probably leave you to it.”

“Or you could stay!” Kiki offered on my behalf. “Provide the male perspective.”

“I prefer to keep my dick where it is, but thanks for the offer. There’s no way Tor would be okay with me being near his mate while she was in any state of undress.”

I peered around Bruno and into the hall, searching for my Viking.

“He’s not here.” Bruno’s voice was gentle as he handed me the box. “He’s freshening up before he comes to you.”

I gave him a self-deprecating smile. “Am I that easy to read?”

“Only when it comes to them.”

“Thanks for this,” I said, hefting the box in my arms. “Since when do you make house calls, anyway?”

“Since Joffrey got stuck with preparations for the gala.”

“I bet he just loves that.”

“You should have seen his face. Positively murderous.”

“So just another Tuesday, then?”

“Exactly,” Bru said with a chuckle.

Fuck, this box was heavy. I shifted my grip and gave him a smile that held a hint of desperation. “Okay, well, this isn’t getting any lighter sooo...”

“Right. Good luck with the fashion show.” He shut the door as he left, and I promptly dropped the box in the middle of my room.

“God, I hope you like the green one. It’ll make you look like you stepped out of the Emerald City.”

“Did you send me a pair of ruby slippers to go with it?”

“Listen, Dorothy. You act like I’m new here. Have a little faith in your fairy godmother, please.”

I paused to picture Kiki in a sparkling pink ball gown, grinning as the image built in my mind. “You totally are Glinda. Quick, sing Popular for me.”

“Does that mean I get to ride around in a giant bubble? Don’t tempt me. I’ve always wanted my own iridescent transportation device.”

“As long as I don’t have to paint my body green, you can do whatever you want.”

“Deal. Just some bronzer or maybe body shimmer. Now get naked, bitch. I want to see you in these dresses, even though I already know which one you’re going to choose.”

“How can you possibly know that?”
