“Mack isn’t my husband,” she replied, handing over his phone.

“Thank you, baby.”

“Hmm. You’re welcome,” Hailo groaned.

“Rosa would’ve held the attitude,” Gi poked.

“I don’t have time to debate with you. Chauncy and I have plans, and I’m running late.”

“I love you too,” He chuckled, focusing back on the papers before him.

“I need to holla at you, Lo Diddy,” I announced before she approached the door.

Gi’s focus was short-lived as his eyes skirted to Hailo, curious what it was about. She didn’t utter a word, but I also caught the subtle hunch of her shoulders as I opened the door for her to walk out.

“Is everything okay?” Hailo asked once I shut the door behind us.

“You tell me,” I replied, and the corners of her mouth turned downward.

“I don’t understand.”

“If anybody knows what’s going on with Sky, it’s you. Don’t play me, Lo.”

“First of all, I’m insulted. Secondly, she’s just been complaining about school. That’s it.”

“That’s it?” I repeated, and Hailo threw her hands on her hips.

“Have you tried asking her since you don’t believe your favorite?” She inquired.

“She keeps blaming school, but that isn’t it. I can feel it, Lo. Something is off.”

“I’ll talk to her,” Hailo offered, sensing my frustration because that’s what we did for each other.

“I appreciate it, and you really are my favorite. Just don’t tell your nut-ass husband.”

“Aye, watch your mouth,” she fussed.

“My bad, let me get back before he has a heart attack trying to figure out what we’re talking about.”

“He’ll be okay, and so will you and Sky,” Hailo reminded me before heading for the elevator.

I strolled back into my office, ignoring Gi’s eyes following me from the door to my desk. He didn’t think anything weird was going on. He was so deep in love that the idea of Hailo going to anybody else about anything had him watching me reclaim my seat.

“Everything good?” Gi asked.

“Yeah.” But my response didn’t soften the intensity of his glare. “Damn nigga! I can’t have a conversation with Lo?”

“No, because you and Lo Diddy are always up to something.”

I chuckled. “At least you know she’s in good hands.”

“Fuck you.”

“Where is Tyson? I’m not waiting on his ass all day.”

“I don’t know. I’ve been phoneless all morning,” Gi pointed out while catching up on missed calls and messages.

Ignoring his smart-ass comment, I called Tyson, who was pulling into the parking garage. The conversation remained paused until he walked in.
