Gianni didn’t just want a wife. He also wanted to be a husband, which made a difference in our marriage. Gianni took pride in taking care of us. That alone was enough to keep me on my knees.
I stood in the mirror and finished my make-up before checking my bag. Niyomi and Denim usually stayed here to fight over the kids, but this visit wasn’t about them either. It was strictly girl time, so I booked the penthouse suite downtown for the evening.
Gianni met me at the bottom of the stairs before I could exit.
“Have fun tonight,” he reminded me.
“I will.”
“Not too much fuckin’ fun, Hailo.” Gianni reiterated, smacking my ass as I headed out the door to pick up Sky.
After letting her know I was on the way, I pulled out of the driveway, blasting my favorite songs. Shortly after arriving, I expected Mack to follow Sky, reminding her of what Gianni told me. Instead, it was just her gripping her overnight bag, but my girl looked amazing in the short black dress.
“I see you serving body tonight!” Sky ignored my compliment, climbing inside. “I know Mack gave you a lecture before leaving.”
She remained silent but gave me that look every woman in a committed relationship could relate to.
They weren’t seeing eye to eye.
“You didn’t invite Solana either?” Sky asked, changing the subject.
“Actually, hoe, I did,” I fired back. Kyerra would never be my favorite person, but Solana had become the little sister I didn’t know I needed. Since she and Gianni were close, she spent a lot of time at our house, giving me a chance to really get to know her. “She’s meeting us here .”
“Look at you.”
“Don’t do that. Solana is my baby.”
“Yeah, now,” Sky chuckled.
“To be fair, I hated everybody when I first got here. Gianni included.”
“Now look at you. In love with that man’s drawers.”
Initially, it felt so far away but I was more in control than I thought at the time. I wanted to share that advice with Sky because she looked like she needed it, staring out the window with a heavy heart.
I turned up the music for now, but once we were situated in our suite, I decided to address the elephant in the room while it was just the two of us.
“First, your man comes to me with a long face, and now you’re wearing one, too.” I plopped down on the couch next to Sky. “What’s going on?”
“I’m just stressed.”
“About what?”
Sky bit down on her bottom lip, tearing her eyes away. This wasn’t like her at all. Whatever she was carrying was so heavy she parted her lips to let me in, then quickly changed her mind.
“So you can run and tell Mack?” Sky asked, rolling her neck.
“Wow. You really think I’d do that?”
“Y’all are two peas in a pod, which is why Mack came to you.”
“This is true, but if you really need me, you should know I’m here. I’d never tell him if you tell me not to,” I reasoned.
Sky sighed. “I know. I’m sorry. I just have stuff to figure out, Lo. You know how protective they can be sometimes.”
“It’s because he loves you.”
Sky’s head fell, and snivels followed while I was stuck trying to figure out what I said to make her cry.
