Taking off my heels, I dropped them on the floor before slowly turning toward Tyson, “If you want me to do something for you, it would be nice to have all the information so I’m not out here looking stupid!”

Slamming the bathroom door shut, I locked it because I didn’t want Tyson to see me crying. It didn’t matter because he didn’t jiggle the handle. He wasn’t on the other side of the door asking if I was okay. There was nothing, and suddenly, I regretted declining Vincent’s offer.

Chapter Sixteen

The streets were quiet. Too quiet for that amount of money to be floating around the street. Gianni was growing impatient, which made me impatient because I hated shit hanging over my head. I had finally gotten my hands on the security footage and spent all night going through it, looking for anything that would help me figure out who signed their death wish taking my shit.

“She cooks,” I smiled, walking into the kitchen where Solana was moving around preparing breakfast.

“I shouldn’t have since I woke up alone this morning.”

It had been a lot of late nights and early mornings. Last night, I was home at a decent time, but once that footage came my way, it consumed me until I woke up on the couch instead of beside Solana.

“You missed me, Princess?” I asked while my arms encircled her waist, causing her to giggle.

“No, I didn’t.”

“Break a nigga’s heart, why don’t you.”

“I think your heart is just fine.”

“We’ll see after breakfast. Do you know what you’re doing?”

“There’s a lot of things I’m good at that you don’t know about,” she replied proudly.

Solana was still avoiding her family, but for now, she was here, so I cut her some slack. Besides, I could only focus on one problem at a time.

“I hear you.”

“Am I going to spend more than an hour with you today?” Solana asked.

“Don’t do that.”

“Would you prefer me to walk around pouting, being passive-aggressive instead of direct?”

She had grown a lot since we started down this path. Shit was complicated, so our communication had to be on point. It was our only hope of coming out of this together. It took work on both parts because I wasn’t used to being so fuckin’ patient or having other people dictate my moves.

“You’ll see me for more than an hour today.”

My response made her blush so hard that all she could muster was, “Okay.”

“But I have work to do. Somebody has to afford all the shit you’ve ordered. I should’ve thought twice when you came into the casino looking lonely as fuck.”

“You approached me. Nobody asked you to invite yourself into my space.”

“I felt sorry for your ass,” I joked.

“Yeah, right.” Blowing me off, Solana focused on the pancake batter she poured into the pan. Once she flipped them both, she spun around, resting her back against the counter. “We’d seen each other around plenty of times before, but what made that night so different?”

“I don’t know.”

Solana bulged her eyeballs before rolling them and returning to the stove, mumbling. “You lie so bad.”

Honestly, I didn’t know what drove me to approach Solana that night. I had seen her around plenty of times, and the thought never crossed my mind until it did.

“Nah. You just looked like you needed somebody, and I was right.”

“Smooth answer, Mr. Cassidy.”
