When Piper shooed me away from her home that night, I was happy to leave. Just not before I paid a little visit to a certain doorman first. There was a particular matter of an elevator surveillance tape that I needed to have in my possession, and like hell, I’d leave her apartment building without it. I wasn’t going to let that tape be passed around like some porno and have unwelcomed eyes linger on her face as she shattered into a million pieces. No man was going to get off at the sight of Piper in her most vulnerable position.

Fuck that.

As I saw it, I was the one who worked to give her that euphoric orgasm and, therefore, the only one who was rightfully entitled to it.

My own little memento of that night.

Luckily, it wasn’t too hard for me to obtain it. Not only was the doorman sound asleep when I reached the lobby, but by the looks of it, he had been that way for hours. Long enough not to know the prize he had in his hands.

He never even stirred in his seat as I erased all traces of the video, but not before making a copy for myself.

I wonder if she had the balls to ask for it the following morning.

I’m sure she did.

A woman like that wouldn’t want something so private to be in the hands of someone she didn’t trust. I wish I could have seen her face when the doorman had no idea what she was talking about and, after inspection, realized that all the surveillance of that night had been tampered with and destroyed.

She does look stunning tonight.

In that little, tight-fitted dress with a slit up her thigh to show off her long legs, she looks refined and devastatingly sexy without trying too hard.

I wonder if she plans to use that dress to indulge in her old habits. My suspicion is confirmed when I see her casting suggestive glances at Connor, of all people.

“Ah, kitten… that’s not happening. Not tonight. Not ever.” I smile.

It doesn’t take long for Connor to see the empty glass in my hands and return to me with a refill.

“Enjoying yourself, are you?” I ask, tilting my chin towards Piper, who is now preoccupied with some socialite.

“What can I say?” He has the audacity to grin. “Not only are the tips good, but the babes be banging.”

“That is onebabethat you won’t bebanging,” I explain, making sure he understands that he’s going home empty-handed tonight.

“You’re going to have to pay me a whole lot more to make me say no to that.” He laughs. “I mean, look at her. That’s one fine ass money can’t buy.”

“Is that so?” I counter with a sinister smile. “Then how about I make you another offer. Instead of cash, I won’t break your kneecaps. How does that deal work for you?”

He lets out another laugh, but his smile falls flat on the floor when he sees I mean business.

“Look, she’s the one who has been eye-fucking me the whole night. I didn’t do shit.”

“And that’s exactly how it will remain. By the end of the night, she’ll make her intentions more obvious. And when that happens, I want you to turn her down. When she asks you why, tell her to come see me.”

“And who are you?” he asks, unable to hide the fear in his voice.

“The man who has your balls in his hands and can twist them off if I so much as feel like it,” I threaten with a foreboding grin. “If you want your balls to stay exactly where they are, let her flirt with you all she wants tonight, just as long as you turn her down at the end. Tell your friends, Connor. She’s not to be touched. Or I’ll be the one they have to answer to.”

The threat in my eyes is enough to coax him to tuck his tail between his legs and rush off.

Most of these fundraiser nights are so dreadfully boring that time seems to drag on, but messing with Piper has just become my favorite way to pass the time.

As time goes by, I keep my focus split between checking for Rex’s return from his private convo with Lawrence and checking for every new development between Piper and Connor.

Rex is the first to resurface, his expression too blank for me to read.

Lawrence, however, looks like whatever they discussed went exactly as he planned.

I pull away from the corner of the room and walk over to Rex. I’m intrigued by what could have pulled him out of a fundraiser that his beloved wife was so passionate about just to talk with a man I’m sure he’s never even seen before tonight.
