Finally, she nods, sniffling, and then wiping her nose with the back of her hand. “Yuck. I’m getting snot all over you.”

“That’s fine. I don’t care.” I touch her arm. “I love everything about you. Twins forever, right?”

“Right. And I love everything about you, too.” Sierra wrinkles her nose. “Except the fact that you stink of that horrible man.”

I choke out a laugh. “He’s not horrible, Si. He’s…”

What is he?

Incredible? Amazing? The best kisser I’ve ever met?

Though, what do I know about kissing? Nothing. And yet, I’m supposed to have a mate waiting for me back home.

Shit!

“What’s wrong?” My sister can read me like a book. “He did take advantage of you, didn’t he? I knew it!”

“No, he really didn’t. I loved every minute. It’s just…” I swallow. “Cole.”

“Oh.” Sierra’s face falls. “I can’t believe that didn’t occur to me immediately. Or you! You’re basically mated!”

“I know. God, I suck.” I feel terrible. Moving to one of the wingback chairs in the living room, I slump into it.

“You still don’t remember him, do you?” Sierra walks over and puts a hand on my shoulder.

I sigh sadly. “Not even a bit. Does that make me a horrible person?”

“I don’t think so. Maybe it’s your mind blocking things out because of the trauma. I’ve heard of that happening.”

“But what does it mean for…” I feel foolish saying it, but I forge ahead. “What does it mean for Gage and me?”

“There isn’t a Gage and you, Savannah! Not until you know what’s going on with your body. Don’t rush anything. At least promise me that.”

I gnaw on my lip, trying to process all of this. “I’ll be careful. I will.”

“Just be aware, okay? That chip that was in you may have changed everything. But even if it didn’t, maybe you’re confusing gratitude for attraction.”

“I guess you could be right,” I muse. She makes a good point. But it doesn’t feel that way with Gage. It feels…powerful.

“You know I’m right. And you owe it to yourself to take time to heal before leaping into anything. You’ve been through so much. I know better than anyone – and I was only there for half the time you were. You’re vulnerable, not yourself—”

“I feel exactly like myself, Si.” I’m growing impatient with how much she’s pushing this.

“Really? And just what would that be?” Sierra narrows her eyes on me. “You don’t even remember who your mate was. Or your own parents.”

I feel my face drop as she says that.

She notices it immediately. “Shit. That was a low blow.”

“Yeah. It was.” I drop my face into my hands, resting my elbows on my knees. This is all too much.

“God, now I feel like a horrible person, too.”

I lift my head from my hands and look at my sister. Her face is stricken, eyes wide with regret.

“Si, it’s okay,” I say gently. “I know you didn’t mean it like that.”

She lets out a long breath, shoulders sagging. “I’m so sorry, Savvie. I shouldn’t have said that.”
