“Well, Macy would have made at least a dozen comments already about the boys on the field. All of them would’ve been highly inappropriate.”

“That’s true, though I don’t see any boys. Those are all men.”

“Ehh, I see a lot of boys and only a few men. What’s going on with Macy and Cord?” He asks quietly, keeping his attention on the field below us.

“She’s trying to piss him off. Last night she was all over Schmidt.”

“Dammit. I don’t need the two of them going at it. It’s hard enough to deal with Wyatt being a loose cannon.”

“Nah, you don’t need to worry about Schmidt and Cord. Schmidt entertained her for a while, but then she crossed the line and Schmidt put her in her place. She stormed out and Cord went after her. I'm not sure what happened after that, but I have a feeling Schmidt will be keeping his distance in the future.”

“I wish the two of them would get back together. They were perfect for each other.” He’s quiet for a few minutes before he says anything else. “Does Macy need a job?”

“Yeah, she actually does. Do you really need a public relations specialist?” I arch a brow in his direction, knowing he probably already has that covered.

“Need one? Eh, I have a company already, but could I hire her just because I want to? Yes.”

“You know, I always thought it was the moms who were supposed to stick their noses in everyone’s business and play matchmaker. But in my experience, the dads are so much worse and they don’t even try to hide their meddling.”

“I'm going to tell Wes and Blake you said that.”

“Oh my gosh! Go ahead, I’ve told them the same thing! You’re a bunch of gossips!” I throw my head back and laugh.

“Yeah, well, I hear you spent the night on a couch with a certain professional athlete.” He quirks a brow.

“See! You’re only proving my point! The three of you are worse than a bunch of old ladies!”

“You know, you should probably stop attacking me and pay attention to the game. This is what you get paid for after all. Maybe I should fire you too, and find a new physical therapist.”

“Oh, shush. You love me and you know it. You’d never fire me.” I rest my head on Owen’s shoulder and smile when he kisses the crown of my head. He’ll always be like another uncle to me. I don’t care if we aren’t related. Family is always thicker than blood.

Chapter 22

Wyatt

Leo rolls his neck from one side to the other as I signal what type of ball he should throw. He shakes his head and I give him a different signal.

“Charlie’s looking hot today,” Stubbs mutters only loud enough for me to hear him.

“Leave her the fuck alone,” I growl.

“Why don’t you leave her alone and let someone else have a chance with that sexy little thing? Didn’t you already have your shot and you blew it?” he hisses.

“She doesn’t want you. She avoids you at all costs.”

“Yeah, and I'm sure you have nothing to do with that.”

Leo launches the ball our way and Stubbs misses it. He lets out a long string of curses before he lifts his bat to his shoulder again.

“I didn’t do shit. Maybe if you didn’t discuss her like she’s a toy and not a human, she’d feel more comfortable around you.”

Stubbs swings at the next ball and misses again. He swings his bat through the air as a practice, then clinks the tip against home plate.

“Maybe if you focused more on the game and less on the physical therapist, you could actually get on base.”

The third ball comes flying our way and this time Stubbs makes contact. It’s not a strong hit and lands closer to me than Leo.

Stubbs takes off at a sprint for first base and I jump to my feet. I send the ball sailing through the air and Wheeler reaches up to grab it. Right as his fingers connect with the ball, Stubbs rams into him and knocks him off balance. He stumbles back a few steps and goes down on his ass.
