Page 45 of Caution
After learning the truth about her parents and the solitary life she led, I wanted Daisy to know she had someone who would follow through for her. Even if we both knew this was going to come to an end, I’d be the guy she needed for as long as she wanted me.
Forrest
What makes you think I changed my mind from last night? I’m coming over to pick you up for a day out in Scarlet Valley, just like I said we would.
Daisy
Okay, but there’s just one more question I have before you do that.
Forrest
Which is?
It felt like an eternity had passed before Daisy’s next text came through. But once I read it, I understood why.
Daisy
It doesn’t necessarily matter to me which one it is, but I was wondering how you’d feel about something. Could one of us pack a bag tonight, so we could have these conversations in person in the morning?
I didn’t want to get my hopes up about where things would go, but that text made it impossible not to dream just a little.
Forrest
There’s another question that’ll never get you a ‘no’ for an answer.
Daisy
Really?
Was she crazy?
Why would I ever turn down more time with her? And considering she knew there was only one bed in her room and one in my cabin, I was even more thrilled about the prospect of sleeping in the same bed with her.
In fact, I was immediately wondering how she slept. Did she like to cuddle? Was she a woman who’d hog the blanket? Would she allow me to hold her close all night?
Forrest
Absolutely.
Daisy
So, where are we going to do it?
I nearly choked.
Forrest
Pardon?
Daisy
Should I pack a bag, or do you want to pack a bag?
It wouldn’t have mattered to me if nobody packed a bag, as long as I had the chance to spend the night with her.
Forrest
Whatever you want is fine by me.
