“Steph,” I cry, holding my hand over my phone. I hope they didn’t hear that.
“What? It’s true.”
“Probably,” I mumble.
“Ask them if they have run into any problems,” she persists.
“Uh, guys?”
“Stephanie,” Handsome says, walking over with a slight smile.
Crap, he heard everything. I put on my best innocent face.
“Logan,” she responds. I automatically hit the speakerphone button. He smiles wider.
“How are you?” he asks seriously.
“I’m doing well. It will be nice to speak to you in person,” she says.
“I agree.” There is a moment of silence. “The structure of the building is solid. So far, we won’t have to replace any of that. All the work will be on the inside unless we discover something as the walls get replaced.” He tucks a piece of stray hair behind my ear that had come out of my ponytail.
“That's good,” she says excitedly. “Are you taking care of Breeane?”
“Steph,” I yell.
“You didn’t think I would pass this opportunity up,” she snaps.
“We are doing our best,” Logan cuts in before I yell again. “She is the best thing that has happened to us.”
“I’m glad. You deserve it,” she says softly.
“I don’t know about that, but we aren’t taking the gift for granted.”
“Good.”
“Alright,” I say. “Are you done?” I ask Steph.
“Sure,” she laughs.
“I can’t wait to see you again, Stephanie,” Logan offers. “I’ll get back to work.”
He winks and walks away. “He’s so sweet.” I rest my face on my palm, my elbow on the armrest.
“Sweet is not what I think when I think of him,” she says.
“Fuck.” I rush to take it off speaker.
“It won’t matter,” she giggles.
“Steph,” I whine.
“I’ll let you get back to watching your hot mates.”
“Really,” I snap.
“Love you,” she sings.
I throw the phone onto my lap, cross my arms, and glare at it.
