He gently smacked my hand. “Don’t get crazy, woman.”

Laughing I leaned over and kissed his cheek. “Thank you for answering me.”

He turned his head and kissed my lips. “Thank you for being with me.”

We ate in silence and I felt a bit of pressure ease off my shoulders that I hadn’t realized had been from my uncertainty on how he felt about me and the pack.

I helped him wash the dishes and then we cuddled on the couch and watched some television.

After the crazy previous night, it was nice to relax together. Yet, despite the relaxing time, I had a niggling feeling that things were about to get insane for all of us.

Chapter

Eight

“Make sure you do your training while we’re gone,” Rhys ordered us.

“Don’t skip your meals, either,” Jolie ordered us. “It’s important to eat healthy.”

“We’re adults, you do know that, right? We make our own meals all the time when we’re away from here,” Caleb said and arched a brow at his parents.

His mom and dads had been giving us reminders for five minutes as they stood beside the SUV they were taking to start their vacation.

“Give me a hug,” Jolie ordered him and then waved me over to hug me next. “Stay together and protect each other, okay?”

I nodded. “We will.”

“Call us if something happens, okay? I better not read about it first in a news article or see a news report on TV,” Jolie ordered.

“We’ll be fine, Mom,” Caleb said and kissed her cheek. “Now get out of here and go on your vacation.”

“Take lots of pictures!” I said as I backed up to stand beside Riddick.

They finally got into the SUV and headed on their way.

“I thought they’d never leave,” Caleb breathed. “We better head out, too.”

Ezio was off on a task somewhere else today, so he couldn’t drive us. Instead, Declan had driven to pick us up since we were going to his place. “Do you need to get anything?” Declan asked.

“No,” Caleb replied. “We’re ready.”

“Let’s head out then!” Declan opened the side door and smiled at me. “Ladies first.”

I pretended to pick up the side of a dress and skipped over to climb inside. “Such a gentleman.”

“Uncle Declan is a lot of things, but gentleman isn’t one of them,” Caleb teased.

Declan scoffed. “Shows what you know about me.”

“I guess we’re about to find out, aren’t we?” Caleb said.

Once everyone was inside, Declan started the drive through the city and to the outskirts where they had a house in the rural area.

Since Leona’s mates consisted of multiple different races, they hadn’t wanted to choose one of the clans’ areas. And Leona said she preferred to be away from the city as much as she could.

I had a feeling it had something to do with her being a siren, but hadn’t confirmed that yet.

“Leona’s been counting down the days for you to come,” Declan said and glanced at me in the rearview mirror. “She even bought new bedding and washed it twice just to make sure it wasn’t scented for you guys.”
