“No. She’s missing.” My mind filters the male’s voice quickly but I can’t seem to come up with a name. To be fair, her pack is decently sized, so it could be any of them. She also has a handful of brothers, but that just doesn’t feel like the right answer.
“Who is this?” Surely her captor wouldn’t be stupid enough to keep her phone and answer it, right? I quickly switch to speakerphone and go to the app Lexi added to my phone when I kept losing it. If this idiot has her phone, I can use this thing to find it, and them, really fucking fast.
“Kelsey Neander. I had hoped to meet you under better circumstances. Alexis has gone missing.” I stop fiddling with the app and notice Victor has moved to the doorway to more easily pay attention to the conversation going on. Not that he would know any better than I do who the fuck has my best friend’s phone.
“Wait, who the fuck are you Kelsey? And how do you know Lexi is missing?” She’s gone off the rails a time or two before. And who knows how many women she took home last night. She could be trapped in a pussy pile for all we know.
There is a huge sigh and shuffle on the end of the phone, before Kelsey’s voice is replaced by one I know far too well. William Layne. Lexi’s dad and the only parental figure I have had in my life for the past few years.
“They left a note, Ginger Snap. You need to get down here.”
I nod but remember he can’t see me. “Yeah. I’m on my way.” I press the button and end the call but my veins have gone to ice.
Victor stands straight, in an almost defensive pose, but doesn’t move from the doorway. Just as I wonder what the fuck that is about, the shaking starts I understand why. This time I feel the power building and I watch as my skin begins turning luminescent. It starts at my feet and begins moving further and further up my body.
I’m panting heavily when my terrified eyes lock with Victor.
“Run!”
It’s the only word that escapes me as my head is thrown back and a scream unlike anything I have heard before escapes my lips. The room explodes in a blinding light, only seconds before it literally explodes.
For a moment, I loose myself. I don’t feel like Ginger Imara Leclair. For a moment, that woman ceases to exist. There is no beginning or ending to the ethereal light. I am one with it. It’s warmth embraces me and the power I feel is…
Transcendent
I am not a witch. I am a Goddess. I am vengeance.
Without a conscious thought of doing so, I begin to move. Not thinking of my heading, but simply allowing my instincts to lead me.
I hear humming and realize it’s coming from my own mouth. The sounds of my soul taking glee in the decimation we are about to unleash.
Someone certainly made a mistake when they decided to fuck with me.
I will eviscerate the world if the people I love are hurt.
Fuck I may do so just because I’m angry.
Watch out bitches.
You fucked with the wrong slut.
What just happened?
Victor
Ihave never thrown myself quite so far.
The impact of hitting the tree in front of Ginger’s house dislocates my shoulder. An annoyance, but easily fixable. I move to do just that when I am tossed against the house across the street. Thankfully my instinct is to seek cover, and I dive into a thick set of bushes mere seconds before a blinding light covers everything.
Even on the brightest summer days, the sun would never compare to the magnitude of this light.
My body is still completely naked, a fact that becomes glaringly clear when my skin begins to feel as if it’s burning. If the smell is anything to go by, it most likely is. I hear the scream that sounds so much like Ginger, and yet…
This isn’t Snap magick. This isn’t even witch magick. I’ve never seen anything like this at all. I’ve never even heard of anything like this before.
And that terrifies me.
The screaming finally subsides and a ghostly humming noise replaces it. The sky is still bright, but my flesh no longer feels like I’m being roasted. I glance down and wince at the sight.
