“Need something?” he asks when it’s just the two of us.
“Do you really think Skye’s not in danger?”
Soul rests his hand on my shoulder. “Bro, if I thought she was, I’d put a protection detail on her.”
“If anything happens to her…”
I can’t even let myself finish that thought because it’s unthinkable.
Soul stares at me, his gaze all-knowing. “You’re all in with her, aren’t you?”
“Huh?”
“Skye. You like her.”
“Yeah, I do.”
“In fact, you like her so much that you’re gonna claim her.”
“How do?—”
“Dude, I’ve been in your shoes.” He chuckles. “Once you’re in love, it’s easy to spot with others.”
“I’m not in love.”
“Keep telling yourself that.”
“I’m not.”
Soul moves past me toward the door. “Whatever you say,” he calls over his shoulder.
I’m not.
CHAPTER 24
SKYE
“Does Soul know about this?”
Mark smiles as the door closes behind us. Zach snickers at the scowl on Cece’s face.
“She doesn’t need permission,” Mel says defensively.
“Chill.” Mark holds up his hands. “Wasn’t saying she did. Just asking.”
Cece finally declared that we weren’t putting off girl’s night anymore. However, it’s turning into an all-day affair, complete with our personal babysitters per Soul’s orders. Apparently, when this group of women get together, trouble seems to follow.
“Whose idea was this?” Violet squeaks as we enter Persuasion Ink.
Mel came up with the idea that we should all get matching tattoos since we’re all a part of the Badass Bitches Club. I sketched out a very simple and small outline of a phoenix spreading its wings with the tail curving under toward its body. It’s simple, but it packs a punch for all of us. Not only does it symbolize rebirth and healing, but it also shows strength and courage. All common traits found in each and every one of us.
“We all agreed, Violet.” Heather tugs her through the small lobby. “No backing out now.”
As soon as Cece told Possum what we were up to, he was very accommodating, clearing his and Sammie’s schedule to fit us all in.
“Welcome ladies.” Possum rubs his hands together. “Who’s first?”
I sent Possum a picture of my drawing when we finalized the booking, so they already know what we want.
