Page 103 of Timelessly Ours
“I haven’t been that obvious, this whole time, have I? I thought I was pretty discreet about it.”
“Not to us,” Angel admits. “You don’t think we notice when your eyes linger on anything?”
“And you don’t linger,” Cora agrees. “Unless you’re pinning your next target with your death glare.”
“I don’t have a death glare.”
“You’re right. You don’t,” Cora admits. “It’s more of a I know you know who I am so don’t fuck with me glare.”
I think about it for a moment. “Okay. Maybe that’s accurate.”
“Oh, and for what it’s worth, I think it’s totally reciprocated,” Angel says, wiggling her brows.
Cora and I exchange glances, since she knows about the kissing. But only the kissing. I’m not quite ready to share… the other stuff.
“Aww, you’re blushing,” Angel chirps. “Don’t tell me you didn’t notice? I mean I know my dad can be cold as ice sometimes, but I feel like he holds you to a whole different level.”
I’m not sure what that means—but I think I like it.
“Nicole?” The little voice comes from the top of the stairs and I race to a sleepy Rory before she comes tumbling down.
Reaching her, I grab her waist. “Hey, sweetie, what is it? Did you have a bad dream?”
“I heard Angel.”
Angel hops off the counter. “Hey, Squigs. Yeah, sorry, my voice carries. We’re having a slumber party, want in?”
Rory’s eyes light up.
I bag up the junk food and leave the microwave popcorn on the counter.
“Yeah, we were just going to pop this in the microwave and watch…The Swan Princess.”
“We were?” Cora groans.
I shoot my friend her very own death glare. “Yes, we were.”
Royce: Why aren’t you in my bed?
Nicole: I think you just answered your own question.
Royce: Because I’m not in it?
Nicole: Sure. Let’s go with that.
Royce: I like knowing you’re in my bed. Are you at least wearing one of my shirts?
Nicole: I don’t know how I’ll explain that one to your daughter.
Royce: Angel?
Nicole: And Cora. It’s a slumber party.
Royce: Good. I’m glad you’re not alone.
Nicole: Not only am I not alone, I’m crowded. Rory is in my bed with me and Angel and Cora are sleeping on the floor. Even though Angel has her own room here, but whatever.
Royce: Figures, that girl spends half her day on a hard surface.
