Page 44 of Tainted Desire
I tried to move, but it took me so long to regain control over my limbs that I was still trying to get my legs to cooperate when the key turned around in the lock.
What the hell?
I jumped up—now they were cooperating—ran to the door, but sure enough, the asshole had locked me in.
“Alex. Open the door immediately. This is not funny.”
I listened. But all I could hear were footsteps striding away.
Asshole.
I tried the handle a couple of times, not that the heavy door budged. Then turned around.
The audacity this man had was unbelievable.
I went to the windows, looked down at the main entrance to the club below me. There was a sea of people lining up to gain entrance. Too high up to jump down from.
Fuck.
I went to his desk. Maybe he had a spare key somewhere. I chuckled—would serve him right to lock me in just to have me escape five minutes later.
I opened the drawers, starting on top, but sadly, no key. But when I opened the last drawer, I found a purse.
My purse.
The one that had been stolen earlier.
So he got it back before sunset?
Damn.
I sat back in the chair and inhaled—his scent was still clinging to the headrest.
What should I do now? I had my phone and my passport back, so as soon as I was out of this room, I could book a flight and get back home.
Wait a minute. I woke up his computer. Fuck. Password protected.
Then somehow, the bookshelf to the left of me started to move. I jumped up, pulled the straps of my purse over my head, and faced the hidden door in a fighting stance.
As soon as it was all the way open, I jumped in front of the woman who was apparently as surprised to find me in Alex’s office as I was seeing her.
I hadn’t expected a woman.
Was she Alex’s girlfriend? A hookup? The cleaning lady?
Didn’t matter.
Before she could say anything or even react, I squeezed by her and was out the door.
Now what?
I scrambled along. I wouldn’t have too much time before Alex got wind of my escape, so I needed to get out of here.
ASAP.
I took two flights of stairs and ended up entering the club from behind the bar, coming face to face with a bartender who froze for a split second before his face transformed into a flirty smile.
“Oh, hello, who do we have here? A treat for me?”
