Page 50 of Summer With You
“I will.” I swallowed past the burning emotion in my throat, unexpected tears forming in my eyes again.
“Do you reaffirm your love for him, and will you love, honor, and cherish him in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for better or worse, and forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?”
“I do,” I croaked, trying to talk past the lump of tears in my throat.
He repeated the same for Ace. A tear ran down my cheek at the roughness of Ace’s voice from all of the emotions he was feeling.
“You may now say your vows.”
“Ace, my darling asshole,” I couldn’t contain the laugh after seeing the grin that spread across his lips, “we have had our fair share of hell, experienced a lot of traumas, and overcame every obstacle thrown our way. Loving you has been the easiest thing I have ever done.” His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed. “The thought of losing you leaves me breathless. I love you more than I did thirteen years ago when we first got married, and I certainly love you more than I did the day when I first told you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, by your side, loving you.” I swallowed thickly, trying to breathe through the tears rolling down my cheeks.
“The moment I saw you, I just knew you were going to be a pain in my ass.” Amber laughed, along with my parents, and I sniffled. “I could see you were a princess, and so the nickname stuck. Something that was intended to be mean became endearing. I often think about how you saved me all of those years ago, how your love and kindness brought so much light into my dark life. You are the most caring mother and such a loving wife. I fall in love with you every day by watching you do simple things like fold laundry in the middle of the morning while you wait for Jessie to wake up and washing the dishes after dinner. I need to spend the rest of my life with you because without you, I am a lost soul.” Whimpering, I clutched onto his hands tightly.
“You’re killing me,” I whispered through the tears.
“Since we aren’t exchanging rings, I think it’s time to kiss the bride.” Ace glanced at my father, who had a big grin on his face, and nodded in complete agreement. A laugh spilled from my lips.
Ace let go of my hands to frame my face, his strong palms clutching my cheeks, bringing me closer to his lips.
“I love you, Mrs. Danvers,” he whispered just before brushing his lips against mine in a butterfly-inducing, world-altering kiss.
He stole my breath with his full lips, and with his devilish charm, he stole my heart all over again.
“I love you, Mr. Danvers.”
Our noses brushed, and we looked into each other’s eyes.
“Is this what you wanted?” I whispered, slightly breathless.
“Not quite. What I really want is to spend the entire summer with you at our new lake house.” Pulling away, I almost stumbled backward before his hands latched onto my waist, catching me.
“What lake house?” I asked, running my eyes over my husband’s face, trying to figure out what in the hell he was talking about.
“The one we bought last week that’s right over there.” He pointed to a small house across the water.
“You didn’t!” I exclaimed, grabbing his arm in excitement. I started crying all over again. How in the world was he this amazing?
“Oh, I did, Princess. That over there is our new vacation home, where we’re going to make the most beautiful memories with our family.”
“I love you,” I gushed, throwing my arms around his neck.
“Nobody but you,” he whispered against my lips before kissing me breathless one more time in front of our cheering families.
THE END!
