“It’s Quinn.” I glanced at Zane. “He heard about today and wants to talk to us about something.”
Zane stopped playing and put his guitar down.
Another text came in as Zane picked up his phone.
Nick: what happened at work? Our work or your work? Or their work????
Quinn: Their work
Nick: oh good. For a second I thought I was hallucinating because I didn’t work today
Nick: continue
Gray: I’m here
River: me and z too
Noah: present
Quinn: Good. It’ll be easier if we’re all here in real time
Zane: how did you find out about today?
Quinn: hayden called me
“Hayden?” I said out loud, forgetting we were texting and not talking. Zane caught my eye and gave me a ‘what the fuck’ look. I shrugged. I hadn’t had a chance to talk to Hayden since we’d hung up.
Quinn: I’m missing some details, but I talked to my lawyer on your behalf and she gave me some advice
Nick: you have a lawyer? Are you a criminal mastermind or something??? Who has a lawyer on speed dial if they’re not a supervillain???
Gray: someone who runs their own business. Your man has a team of lawyers remember?
Nick: oh right. My bad.
He sent a GIF of a cartoon cat with giant sad eyes.
Nick: please don’t kick me out of the big people chat. I promise Ill keep quiet
Nick: you know me. I just need to feel like im part of things
Zane: your fine angel face
Noah: what did your lawyer say?
Gray: thanks for talking to them
Quinn: it’s np
Quinn: she said that based on what hayden told me, you guys have a solid case against your boss and the new company
Quinn: but she also said that trying to solve this through litigation wouldn’t be her first move. It takes time and money to prove this stuff. Big companies count on people not taking them to court when they pull this shit because they don’t have the means to fight it
Gray: sounds about right
River: of course they do
Zane: fuck capitalism
