“Why do I doubt yer sincerity?” Callum gritted out as he cupped himself.

“I really am sorry. You scared me.”

“Who the hell did you expect?”

“Certainly not you after you said you were going to the couch.”

“Yeah, well, the couch didn’t turn out to be that comfortable.”

“Maybe you need to invest in a new one,” I suggested.

His expression turned murderous. “There will be no need for that since I will never fucking sleep on it again.” He glared at me. “Understood?”

“Does that mean you’ll be sleeping with Quinn or Dare?”

With a growl, Callum reached across the mattress to grab me. As his arms encircled my waist, I squealed and tried to get away, but he was too strong. After he pulled me against him, Callum flipped me onto my back before getting on top of me. His thick thighs pressed against mine as he loomed over me. He smiled. “You are entirely too cheeky, my wife.”

“That’s your opinion.”

“Perhaps I should teach you a lesson and remind you who is the boss in this house.”

As my head spun in a sensory overload, I tried to fight the feelings rising in me. God forgive me, but I liked the feel of him on top of me. I liked it very much. I’d never been this close to any man before.

My chest heaved while heat bloomed between my legs. “W-What are you going to do to me?”

“Something devious.”

“Is that necessary?” I gasped.

“I think so.”

As I searched his eyes, I swallowed hard. “Please.”

Callum’s jaw clenched. “Oh, Kitten, the sound of that word on your lips wrecks me.”

The next thing I knew Callum dipped his head before crushing his mouth against mine. Instantly, I froze. A kiss was to be my punishment? I guess that couldn’t be too bad. As long as he didn’t try anything else I suppose it would be okay.

As his tongue delved into my mouth, an ache burned its way through my core. I never realized you could get so worked up from just a kiss. To my surprise, Callum’s hands remained respectfully around my back as his mouth worked over mine. As his chest rubbed against mine, my nipples hardened. My hands tentatively left his shoulders to sweep through the strands of his hair, causing him to groan.

When he thrust his hips against mine, his erection rubbed against my center. Although it felt amazing, alarm bells went off in my head, and fear replaced any passion I was feeling. This was too much, too soon. I couldn’t sleep with a man I barely knew, even if he was my husband.

I tore my lips from his. Staring into his lust-filled eyes, I shook my head. “I can’t.”

With a groan, Callum pulled away to flop over on his back. When I dared to peek at him, he was staring up at the ceiling, breathing heavily. “I’m sorry,” I whispered.

He turned his head to look at me. “It’s me who should be sorry, Kitten. I let my teasing go too far.”

I licked my swollen lips. “For what it’s worth, the kissing was very nice.”

Callum groaned again before rubbing his hands over his face. “You’ll be the death of me.”

“I’m sorry. Not just about today, but I feel terrible for teasing you like I did last night.”

His brows arched in surprise. “You do.”

I nodded. “So much so I want to go to church first thing.”

The corners of his lips twitched at my admission. In a high-pitched voice, he teasingly said, “Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. I tempted my husband in the worst possible way. I gave him a wee glimpse of the promised land before cruelly slamming the door in his face.”
