“Nope.” Poor bastard. “It would appear she’s been playing both sides and it makes me wonder if this outcome wasn’t the plan all along. Eliminate the competition so to speak.”
Together we climb into my car and with the company of several other officers we make our way to our destination. The entire time my mind is bouncing around, memories of Riley and Myles young, stupid, and getting in trouble. It’s sad to think that Riley could have very easily been Myles, had we not gotten him the help he needed.
The idea of it sickens me to my core.
Me: You awake?
I stand on the sidewalk right outside the entrance of Brynn’s apartment and wait. My day had been long and stressful. After a three-hour standoff outside Riley’s girlfriend's place, we arrested the two men that were found fleeing the scene of the double murder. We also took Ms. Kelly Drake into custody too.
My head is killing me, I was hungry and tired, but more than anything I wanted to see Brynn. More than a want, it's a need to see her.
I needed light, I needed to feel something other than the penetrating ache in my chest. I needed to forget that there was bad all around us and for a few hours surround myself with the good.
Brynn: Yes
Me: Alright if I come up?
I’m met with another pause.
Brynn: Are you here?
Me: Downstairs
I’m already walking toward the door and pulling it open. I find the doorman on the phone and he looks up to meet my gaze.
“Okay, Ms. Webster, I’ll let him up.” He lowers the phone to the receiver. “Hello, Sir.” He offers me a nod.
My phone vibrates in my hand and I look down to read her message.
Brynn: Give your name to the doorman, he will let you through.
Looking back up I offer my badge out of habit to the doorman. “Detective Jensen Steele here to see Brynn Webster.” He glances at my badge, then back up to me.
“She called down,” he tells me, pointing toward the elevator. “You can go on up.”
I’m dragging ass, feeling my body giving in to exhaustion. That is until I’m standing outside of her door and it's being opened from the opposite side.
The apartment behind her is dark, but the hallway outside is lit. There she stands before me in nothing more than an oversized t-shirt. Bare legs peeking out beneath it, her hair piled onto her head, looking incredibly beautiful in her relaxed state. Adrenaline races through me as I step forward and place one hand on her hip.
“This look is incredibly hot,” I tell her and she rolls her eyes as if I'm feeding her with a lie. Walking her backward into her apartment I pull her body closer to mine. “I’m being serious.”
“So you like the rough, did she even brush her hair look?”
“Oh yeah.” I dip my chin lower, dragging the tip of my nose along her cheek. “Only on you, I’m not sure you have the ability to look anything other than beautiful.”
“I bet you say that to all the girls,” she whispers through the darkness before turning her face and I can feel her breath against my lips.
We pause, the sounds of our breaths the only thing that can be heard. Her fingers dig into my forearm, mine tightening at her waist.
Gliding my hand along her lower back I slide a little lower and her shirt rises just enough to confirm my thoughts. She’s wearing nothing beneath the shirt, her bare ass just beneath my fingertips.
A growl escapes me.
“I should have gotten dressed.”
“No,” I say, my voice strained. “This is good.” I lift her shirt and cup her ass fully. “It’s perfect,” I say, kissing her and feeling her smile against my lips.
Our kisses quickly grow heavy and heated, as I back her up to the counter. Pushing my body against hers I know the second she feels how hard she’s got me when she rubs herself against me.
