Page 66 of Fractured Mates

He seems to understand that, because he pulls me toward him, placing a firm hand at the base of my spine and thrusting his hips up in time with my movements.

Our bodies slap together as our breathing becomes ragged. It’s just me and him. There’s nothing that I need to fear. I have Kyler, and that’s enough. At least it will be.

The roughness of our sex, the pure need being shared between us—it can’t be ignored. For full-blooded wolf shifters, we don’t have to bite the other to complete the bond. Sex is enough, as we confirmed last night, but I’ve heard the talk about marking one’s mate, to show the world that they’re yours… It’s supposedly nearly better than bonding.

Feeling the urge to do so and having already admitted that I’m tired of holding back, of keeping my walls in place, I allow my canines to grow. When they’re fully extended, I run my tongue over the tips. Kyler’s eyes don’t miss the action, and I watch as his own elongate.

He’s moving up toward me before I can lean forward. Once we’re sitting up, his cock still snug within me, I lick the curve of his neck, shivering as the stubble on his face brushes against my cheek.

I can’t hold back anymore, and neither can my wolf, who is right there at the surface with me. My bite cuts cleanly through his skin until blood begins to trickle into my mouth. The coppery taste that I’ve known from fighting doesn’t come. Instead, the crimson is sweet and tingles down my throat with that first swallow.

Before I can get greedy, Kyler returns the gesture and his canines puncture my neck. A blast of euphoria explodes within me, starting at my chest, then moving through my veins like a fire that intends to consume me.

I release his neck and ride him harder in our seated position. The need for a release overwhelms me, and if I don’t get it, the explosion I just felt might actually become reality.

Kyler holds me, our bodies grinding together, and the tether between us winding tighter. Our stares meet and I only see love within his eyes. Not that I think we’ve fallen in mere days, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have love between us.

A care so deep for one another that it can only be such a strong emotion, even if we haven’t both completely dove off that cliff.

I have you, Sophie. Now and always.

His words are a whisper in my mind, and a trigger that unleashes my orgasm. My legs wrap firmly around him, keeping the tight pressure between our bodies as I cry out, falling apart in his arms, believing his words as the truth.

This man does have me. In more ways than he’s possibly yet to realize.

Chapter Twenty-Six

Kyler

The hurt inside my mate has become my own. Her pains and fears now weigh heavily on my mind, and I have no clue how she’s survived all these years on her own, bearing these burdens that never belonged to her in the first place.

I thought she’d let me in before, but I was wrong and stupid to think it could have been so easy. Though, none of that matters now. Sophie is still mine, and even if she shuts me out again, which I’m sure she will, I’m going to be there to fight for the both of us for as long as I need to.

She’s sleeping soundly for now and I allow myself to do the same, but it feels as if my eyes are only closed for a minute before the shrill sound of her phone ringing fills the quiet cabin.

Sophie jumps out of bed, eyes wide and arms out, ready to defend herself. It takes another second for her to realize the sound is only her phone that she left on the nightstand.

“This is Sophie.” Her voice already sounds wide awake.

I sit up in bed with the sheets around my waist, reaching for her to rejoin me. Surprisingly, she does as River’s voice sounds over the speaker.

“I don’t have much time, but the plan worked,” is the first thing he says. “I accidentally spilled a drink on the third man from the top, and he ended up challenging me when I wouldn’t apologize.”

His voice is gruff, making me think it wasn’t an easy fight, but that’s the least of my concerns right now and it seems Sophie’s as well.

“So, Astor invited you into his inner circle?” she asks. “Did you get into the pack house?”

“I did, and I’m a little confused. I thought your father was a prisoner?” River’s words have Sophie tensing next to me.

She closes her eyes and breathes deeply before answering. “I assumed that because they weren’t home and Astor said my family would pay for my sins, but there’s a possibility he’s in on whatever is happening.”

“I’m sorry, Sophie, but it’s not just a possibility,” River says softly, showing compassion for a woman he’s never even met. I’ve seen it from him before, and it’s one of the reasons I trust him. “It’s reality. Your dad stood right next to Astor. Whatever Astor has been doing, James has been supporting him enough to be part of this inner circle.”

Fuck. Had Sophie’s own father sent people to kill her when we were alerted by Dawsyn to keep an eye out for Sophie? I don’t know, and part of me hopes we don’t find out, but I’ll make sure he pays one way or another for even standing beside the man who is threatening his daughter’s life.

Sophie’s emotions flare between the bond we share. She’s hurt, but more than that, she’s furious. Though, she seems to be hiding both well.

“You need to keep searching for my mom and sister, River,” Sophie says, a low growl echoing within her words. “Especially my sister. Her name is Jules, and no matter what it might look like, she deserves better. If she’s not a prisoner, she’s been brainwashed. My mother can have that effect.”
