We spend the next hour laughing and talking about everything and nothing. It’s the best day I’ve had in years. No amount of money or fame would be better than sitting here with her, listening to her laugh, or seeing her bright smile, which stops my fucking heart.
“We better get back to the hotel,” she sighs. “I had a lot of fun today.”
“Fun isn’t over. We still have the ghost tour tonight.” I grin.
“You three are going to fuck with me, aren't you?” She narrows her eyes in suspicion.
“Wouldn’t be us if we didn’t, Jelly Bean.” I chuckle.
Jade loves scary movies and the thrill of them, yet she is a big scaredy cat. Get her in the dark and make a noise, she will jump ten feet into the air and release a scream that could wake the dead.
“Always the asshole,” she mutters.
We head out of the ice cream shop and down the street. Just as we make it around the corner, a group of girls look over. One of the girl’s eye widen, her jaw dropping as she lets out a shriek, and I instantly know what's about to happen next.
“Fucking hell,” I groan.
“What?” Jade looks at me with concern.
“You good to run?” I ask her, looking between her and the group.
“Run?” Her eyes widen. “Why, what's wrong?”
“Oh my God, it’s Griffin Graves!” the same girl screams loudly, catching everyone’s attention and directing it all at us.
“That's why,” I sigh.
“Oh fuck.” She laughs. “Shit, Griff, they’re coming this way!”
I look over and curse, grabbing Jade’s hand and taking off the way we just came.
“I love my fans, I do, but sometimes it’s a lot,” I shout to her as we run.
She just laughs, looking over her shoulder every few seconds. “They’re still there!”
“Here,” I tell her, pulling her into a souvenir shop. I quickly grab a hat and shove it on her head as well as a pair of sunglasses. For me, I take a hoodie and throw it on as well as a hat. Jade’s face is one big smile the whole time. Glad she's having fun at least. “Sorry, gotta run,” I tell the clerk and toss a few bills on the counter to pay for all this, plus some for the trouble. “You got a back exit?”
He nods. “Yeah, that way.” He points. “Down the hall and to the right.”
“Thanks!” I grab Jade’s hand and pull her along, making her squeal.
“You're lucky I work out,” she huffs. “Or this would be killing me right now.”
“You work out?” I ask, shooting her a look as we bust through the back door. “I gotta see that sometime.”
“If you play your cards right, maybe I’ll run naked on the treadmill.”
“God, woman!” I curse. “I can’t run with a raging boner.”
All the little minx does is cackle.
Chapter 22
Jade
“You think we’re far enough away?” I ask Griffin, staggering to a stop. I bend over, placing my hands on my knees so I can catch my breath. My heart is racing and my lungs are screaming, but the adrenaline is pumping through my veins.
“Yeah,” Griffin huffs, putting his hands on his hips as he catches his breath too. “I think we lost them.”
