Konrad didn’t reply but pressed his lips to Dahy’s, his tongue begging for access. Dahy did his best to ignore the taste of blood and kissed him back with all the fear and longing swirling in him. Konrad broke the kiss and leaned his forehead against Dahy’s. “I killed the fucker.”
“I noticed.”
He lowered his voice into a whisper so low Dahy hardly could hear him. “What do I do now? I can’t be alpha of the Ordbury pack.”
Dahy squeezed his arm. “Gustav is in the prison cell in the pack house or whatever it’s called.”
Konrad leaned back enough to look into his eyes. “Yeah?”
“Starved and weak.”
Konrad kissed him again, then he turned to the ever-growing group of wolves surrounding them. “To the pack house!”
Everyone moved except for one wolf who shifted back into human form and took a step closer to Konrad. It was the one who’d taken Myka from the car. Konrad stiffened, which had Dahy do the same.
“Alpha.” The man dipped his head.
“Leave now and never come back, Sewell. The next time I see you, I’ll kill you.”
“I didn’t know—”
Konrad cut him off with a snarl, and Sewell took a hurried step back.
“Leave. Never set foot in Doson or Ordbury again.”
Sewell nodded, shifted back into wolf form, and took off in the opposite direction. Dahy looked over his shoulder in time to see Roan help Myka down from the tree. Jyran was sitting on the back of a wolf he assumed was Gideon, and then there was the third wolf with the mad fighting skills. Dahy hoped he was Konrad’s bodyguard. An alpha should have a bodyguard, right?
“Anyone of you wanting to be alpha of the Ordbury pack?”
“No.” Farris followed his answer up with a head shake. The wolves shook their heads too, as did Roan, who was clutching Myka to his naked body.
“I don’t want to either, and Dahy says Gustav is still alive, so I think I’ll hand the pack over to him.”
“Sounds good to me.” Farris clapped Konrad’s shoulder and walked in the same direction as the others, only to call back. “I’m happy if I never have to set foot in this city ever again. Idiots the lot of them.”
Konrad chuckled. “There are a few good ones.”
Farris grunted, and everyone moved toward what Dahy assumed was the pack house, but he didn’t know. They’d come here by car, and he hadn’t paid attention to how they’d been driving.
Konrad took his hand and intertwined their fingers. “We might have to stay a couple of days until Gustav is fit enough to defend his position should anyone be stupid enough to challenge him.”
“Okay.”
Konrad stopped only to pull him into his arms. “I’m never letting you out of my sight again. No more cousin dates—”
“Hey! I have one cousin, and I’m going to see him as often as I please. Same with Myka. I’ll hang out with Myka whenever I feel like it.”
Konrad bit his lip.
“I’ll bring your bodyguard, though. I wouldn’t mind if he followed me wherever I went.”
Konrad widened his eyes. “My bodyguard?”
Dahy gestured at the wolf in question only to have him huff at him.
Konrad laughed. “Amir. He’s flipping burgers at The Howling Moon.”
“No! I want him to be your bodyguard.”
