“It’s okay.” He dragged himself off the bed and collapsed onto the floor.

Shit, yeah, maybe he just needed to lay here a minute longer. Catch his breath. Find his spine.

“Dorian!” Lena ran towards him so fast, he wondered if she’d flashed. “I can’t believe I did all this.” Her gaze flickered all over him. “I can’t believe you let me do all this.”

“Hmmph.” He grinned, even as his head lolled to the side.

“Oh my God!” She grabbed his shoulders and propped his sorry ass against her bed.

“Just give me a minute. I’ll be fine.” He’d been drained down like this many times before by his—

No. Not going there. Never going there again. His past had no place in his future. Life with Lena was a different atmosphere. The air up here was clean and fresh. He was done living in his Hell.

Lena straddled his lap and clasped her hands to his face. Dorian’s brow pinched together. If she needed to be fucked again, he’d happily do so, but, “I need a minute.” His words slurred now. “One sec—”

His eyes drifted closed. Sleep started dragging him down. Crack! A sting burst across his face. His eyes snapped open, and he hissed.

Then his eyes fluttered shut again.

Okay, shit, she might have taken a little too much, he vaguely thought. He wasn’t going to be able to pull out of this quite as fast as he thought.

“Dorian!” Crack!

He smiled with his eyes closed. Or… at least he thought he was smiling.

Dorian’s head lolled back, and he couldn’t find the strength to open his eyes. Lena smelled so good sitting on his lap. He focused on that as he drifted off.

“Dorian!” Crack!

The sting barely registered. Something thin and sharp pried his mouth open. Hot liquid poured onto his tongue.

Feed. His body clung to that instinct. His mouth latched onto the offered source. His eyes opened to slits and he deadlocked on Lena while he drank. Liquid steel poured down his throat. Pure, intoxicating, exotic nourishment.

He pulled deeply. Just a little more. Then he broke away and licked her wounds to seal them.

“More,” she urged, shoving her arm in his face. “You need a lot more.”

“I assure you I don’t.” He was stronger already. Her vampire blood was so new, so fresh and potent, a few drops went a long way.

His wounds healed and disappeared entirely. His heart found a healthy rhythm again. Holding her hips, he enjoyed the weight of his mate on his lap. Damn did she feel wonderful. But he needed to get up and stretch his limbs a little. They were too stiff. But first, he pressed a gentle kiss on her jaw, “You’re divine.”

“Please don’t be romantic right now.” She climbed off him and he was able to stand without collapsing. Hurray for small victories.

Lena tucked her hair behind her ears. “I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t say that word ever again to me.” He swept his thumb across her bottom lip. “No apologies. Ever.”

“But I—”

“You did exactly what you were supposed to do. As did I, as your mate.”

She cringed. “You were going to let me drain you dry?”

“If you needed me to. Yes.”

Lena blanched and recoiled. He gripped her chin, “Hey, look at me.” He forced her head to tilt up. “You’d have done the same for me. Search your soul and tell me that’s not true.”

“Of course, I would,” she said without sparing a second to think it over. “But—”
