“They’ll notice.”

“Who fucking cares?”

He grins at me. “Holy fuck, all I want to do is bend you over a table right now.”

“I won’t say no.”

“Tonight, leave your door unlocked.” He tilts his head for me to follow him back outside to sit with the rest of the guys.

There are two separate seats available and Rome, without thinking, leaves the one beside Sin for me. I hover behind it for a moment contemplating my options, when the thought of that guy watching me gives me the chills. I sit myself down between Oliver and Sin and try to pretend he doesn’t exist, but that doesn’t last long.

“So, Mono, tell me. What did you and the King of Clubs discuss last night?”

I turn to look at him. “How much of a dick you are.”

The guys all start hollering and whistling, while Sin sits sipping his whiskey, unaffected by my teasing. He ignores me for the rest of the night. Even when my platter of fries comes out and is placed in front of me, he doesn’t even manage a smart ass remark. The guys appreciate it though and another one is ordered to share around.

As the night wears on, the guys get too rowdy and we’re asked to leave. On our walk back to campus to attend the formal dinner, Rome, Chaser and I fall back behind the rest. I’m glad whoever is leading us back, has taken a different route than the one where that asshole dropped me my note.

“Do we have to go to this dinner?” I wrap my gown around me, thankful it blocks out some of the cold. Glancing up to the top of the buildings, I wonder if he’s still here, watching and waiting.

“It’s tradition.” Rome wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me into him, shielding me from the cold or the eyes of that fucker.

Chapter twenty-three

Monroe

The great hall is decorated with candelabras, blood red roses and velvet curtains draped from the vaulted ceiling to cover the large bay windows. All the Dacre Hall students are dressed in their black robes and make the place look like a scene out of a medieval movie where warriors are granted knighthood and kings and queens are crowned. The soft melodic tune from the grand piano in the far corner of the great hall sets the scene for this elaborate and formal dinner.

Eyes follow us as the Spades Frat members all make their way to the front of the room to take their seats at the head table. I try to stay behind but Chaser grips my hand and drags me along with him.

“Chaser. Stop. I’m not supposed to sit up there.” I attempt to peel his strong grip from my hand.

He drags me after him and pulls me into his side as we reach the long table that faces the rest of the great hall. “You’re my plus one, baby. I already have a seat reserved for you.” He slaps my ass, pushing me behind the table and leads me to my seat.

I look out at the other students as they find their seats at the long rows of tables and I can’t help but think this will put a massive wedge between me and any chance of making friends.

Alistair sidles up beside me and drapes his arm around my shoulder, pulling me into him. “Just go with it. We all want you here. You’re our honorary member.” He squeezes my shoulder reassuringly.

“What he said.” Tristan taps Alistair’s shoulder as he walks past us to his seat at the other end of the long table.

Alistair saunters away following behind Dalton and seats himself three seats away from the center. I glance up at Rome as he presses up behind me and pushes his semi hard dick into my ass.

“That’s yours later tonight,” he whispers before he too heads to the seat beside Alistair.

“Tease.” I scowl at him.

“Sit.” Chaser pulls my chair out for me and makes me sit down and then sits himself beside me. I’m starting to see there’s a hierarchy in the seating pattern.

“You’re so pushy.” I adjust my gown so it covers my legs. Even though the hall is closed up, it’s still quite chilly in this old stone building.

I gaze across the room and spot Sin talking to another student, their arm gestures and facial expressions look heated and I wonder what scheme he’s concocting. Charlotte waltzes in looking like the perfect student with her ironed gown and perfectly styled hair. She has an extra bounce to her step and a wider smile than usual. She probably hasn’t realized I’m sitting up here yet and I’m sure my presence will dampen her spirits.

“Why is she so happy all of a sudden?” I ask Chaser.

He glances her way as she approaches the table. “She probably finally got laid.”

Her gaze settles on me as she rounds the end of the table and I can feel her burning hatred as she walks past me and seats herself next to Rome. I ignore her and carry on looking out over the crowd. Most students have found their seats and the low hum of chatter fills the high vaulted ceiling.
