“Soon, I promise, doe bheag.” I chuckled, my organ pulsing in response despite its recent satisfaction.

“How soon?” Her palm pressed against my chest, slipping between the dark hair covering my pectorals. “I can’t wait to have you again.”

“Well, you must wait,” I corrected, vexed by her insistence. Running my hand over her length of luscious hair, I was suddenly reminded of her unruly mouth during lovemaking. It was not the first time her pretty lips had caused offense today. “Before I can indulge, we have other matters to attend to.”

She shifted to her elbow, gazing at me. “What matters?”

“The matter of what to do with that scandalous mouth of yours.”

Elodie’s brows knitted.

“Did I not give you one final warning where your vocabulary was concerned?” I employed my firm tone but secretly relished the way bewilderment morphed to something even more gratifying—a flicker of apprehension.

“I... I don’t know...”

“Aye, you do, and since you chose crude and crass language twice while we enjoyed each other, now is the time to address your poor judgment and make sure it does not become a recurring problem.”

“Jeemie.” Her breathing increased as she straightened at my side. “If you’re talking about spanking me again, then no way. I’m not doing that. I’m not—”

Pressing my finger against her lips, I silenced whatever pitiful protest was about to emerge.

“You have no choice.” My lips curled at her shocked expression. “I have been more than fair to you, but if you want my cock, you shall play by my rules.”

“How is it fair to use your brute strength against me?” Fire burned in her eyes.

“It is fair to expect your respect, and Elodie, I shall have it.” I sat up beside her, grasping her chin with my thumb and forefinger. “I told you I preferred a private punishment, and now, doe bheag, you shall discover why.”

Chapter Twenty-Five

Elodie

GLANCING AROUND QUICKLY, I looked for a fast exit, some way I could dodge the smirking giant before he grabbed my wrist, some way I could talk him around.

“I would not if I were you.” The dark glint in his eyes flashed me a warning. “Fleeing now will only add to your tally.”

“But Jeemie...” I loathed the quiver in my voice, the evident demonstration that he affected me. “This is ridiculous. We just put all of that behind us.”

“No, doe bheag.” He shook his head as he covered his gorgeous body in plaid. “We just created ecstasy together, but it has no bearing on your behavior.”

“I don’t want this.” In the end, I reverted to form, slipping from the bed and heading to the furs.

“No.” He caught my arm just as I knew he would, bringing my feet to an abrupt halt. “This is not about what you want but what you need.”

“Let me go, Jeemie.” I pulled away from him, but his grasp never faltered. “You’re a good man, moral. I know you wouldn’t do anything to hurt me—you said so yourself.”

“Indeed, I shall not,” he agreed, rising to his feet and joining me. “But I shall help to teach you an important lesson.”

“Oh, yeah?” I rounded my shoulders, bravado replying for me. “And what makes you think you have any right to teach me anything?”

“Because you trust me.”

My breath caught at the accuracy of his statement.

We could play this power struggle all day, but when push came to shove, he was right. I did trust him, and although it wasn’t logical to have faith in a stranger, something in him called to me, speaking my truth, and telling me it would be okay—if I just let go, just let him take the reins.

“You know I have affection for you.” He moved closer, his grip relaxing on my arm. “I desire only to help you release all the anger brimming inside. I do not and will not harm you.”

I turned my head away, not willing to let him see the depth of emotion his words had stirred.
