And Jesse wouldn’t trade it for anything.

CHAPTER 27

XANDER

This time, Jesse was driving. Xander slid into the passenger side, yanked out his earpiece, and pulled out his phone.

He video called Val and waited anxiously for her to answer. When her gorgeous face appeared, all his tension faded away.

“We’re on our way back, baby. Everything’s good. The Krypt are gone.”

“I’m still at the bunker,” she whispered. “Are you coming straight here?”

“Yes, as soon as we get back, we’re headed right for you.”

“Good… I,” she paused, tears welling up in her eyes. “My sister is dead. My mother too. Simeon confirmed it. He killed them.”

“Oh, baby, I’m so sorry.”

Val wiped her face and nodded. “We’ll talk when you get here.”

“Hold tight.”

Xander tapped end and turned to Jesse. “Can’t you drive any faster?”

“Not without getting pulled over by a cop. You wanna explain all the firearms in the car and blood on our boots?”

Xander sighed.

“Is she okay?” Jesse murmured.

“Simeon confessed to killing her sister and her mom. How would you be?”

“Fuck.”

“Exactly.”

Jesse glanced over and Xander knew exactly what Jesse was thinking. The only thing both of them wanted was to get home to Val.

By the time they finally pulled in to the Hellraiser’s compound, it was nearing on midnight. They got out of the car, whipped off their vests and their gear, and checked their weapons. Sonny had Dante load up the gear on an ATV, and they head off to the bunker.

“How’s Val holding up?” Sonny asked.

“Better than most people,” Xander replied. “That scumbag admitted to killing her sister and her mother.”

“I’m going to really enjoy this job,” Sonny stated as he pulled up to the bunker. “I like the ones I can take my time with. Bullets are quick and effective, but there’s nothing like a knife. Slow death is truly an art form.”

Not for the first time, Xander was hella glad that Sonny was on their side.

They got out of the ATV and headed inside, down the narrow stairs and into the damp basement.

Vanier and Keiran, another prospect, were standing guard outside the interrogation room, along with Val.

When she turned and saw him and Jesse, she ran up to them, holding tight.

Then she glanced at Sonny, tears streaking her face. “Simeon won’t tell me where my sister and mom are buried. That’s all I want to know.”

“Don’t worry,” Sonny replied with an icy glare. “He’ll tell me.”
