They erupt, and I’m not even mad about it. I tune those fuckers out and focus on my girl, wiping the tears from under her eyes.
“I’m going to kill you when you get out of here,” she says, laughing and crying at the same time.
“Looking forward to seeing you try, Bossy.” I smirk. I look at Jed behind her, giving him a nod.
He pulls her back, and she sits on his lap beside my bed, fielding questions and having to stand up for his sexual skills while our brothers all question them. Yeah, his sex skills are top-notch; Laken is just lucky enough to have a sex drive big enough for two. When he kisses Lakes to tune them all out, everyone goes quiet again.
“Alright, what the fuck did we miss?” Zahn asks.
“With how far your head is shoved up your own ass, Zahn, you miss a lot,” Mom says, smacking him upside the head. She looks at everyone. “They’re working on it, and that’s all you need to know. Let’s go and give them some time. Out! All of you.”
Kisses, hugs, chirpy bullshit, and looks of relief, and then everyone is gone, leaving the three of us alone with the sound of my heart beating through a machine. Laken is still on Jed’s lap, and when the silence settles in again, I feel bad for making them stay.
“You two can go. I’m fine.”
“Alright, let’s go, Jed.” Laken stands up, pulling Jed to his feet. When my face falls, she gives me a stern look. “You done pretending you want us to go?”
Bossy bitch. “Fuck, Laken. I hate hospitals.”
“I remember,” she laughs, sitting down. “This isn’t the first time we’ve been here together.”
I grin fondly. Yeah, I hate hospitals, but that was the first night I got to play drunker than I was and be completely unfiltered with her. Ironically, that hospital visit was also because of Fordy, and now I’m once again suffering because of that douchebag and his loyal lackeys.
“That was the night I thought you two were fucking and got jealous,” Jed laughs. “Shit, we’ve come full circle since then.”
“Still not fucking,” I remind him.
“Yeah, but now I’m encouraging it instead of getting jealous about it,” Jed laughs. “You’re fucked, Lakes.”
“Why?” she asks.
“Because soon, you’ll be at the mercy of both of us. You’ll have to quit your job, fuck, quit everything just to be our sex slave. Have you noticed how horny we both are? You think you can handle that?” Jed smirks.
Laken scoffs. “I’m not quitting shit. You two can just find more creative ways to fit in good fucks while I do the girl boss shit I love.” Laken looks between the two of us. “Actually, you’ll be at my mercy.”
True. Horniest chick I’ve ever met. Not at all complaining about it.
“I just got stabbed, Lakes. Fuck me now.” Puppy dog eyes. Not my style, but worth a shot.
“He’s got a point, love.”
“You can’t handle me right now, Kade. Good try, though.” She stands up. “I’m going to get a coffee. Want anything?”
We both ask for a coffee and watch her ass as she walks out. Okay, so the fam knows. No big deal, right?
Except there’s something sad about Laken right now, and I hope it has nothing to do with her being afraid of her sex drive. No matter what Mills and those guys said, having a lively libido is not grounds for being assaulted.
Jed grabs my wrist and squeezes until I wince. “You ever hide the fact that you’re hurt from me again, I’ll kick the fucking shit out of you without holding back. Got it?”
Harsh love. I nod.
Chapter 22
There’s a light knock on our bedroom door, and then Mom bursts in full of energy that has no business being here so early in the morning.
“Merry Christmas, boys!” she lilts, sing-songing her way around our bedroom. She kisses my forehead and then walks over to Kade’s bed to do the same. We both groan, but secretly love that she still has strong Christmas vibes even though we’re all adults now.
“Get up and stop being mopey assholes. We’re having a family breakfast!” She makes a rookie mom mistake by pulling our blankets off in her excitement. “Ew. Take care of those first.”
