“I can’t,” she said. “It’s too dangerous.”
“I can protect you, Ophelia. You don’t have to worry,” I tried to reassure her.
“I’ll be in Chicago,” she said defiantly, holding my eyes. “You can’t protect me there.”
My stomach plunged at the thought of her leaving. For a moment I couldn’t speak, the words tangling in my mouth.
“You’re not going back to Chicago,” I said, my voice sounding odd in my ears.
It was true. And it had been true ever since I saw her again.
“Why? You’ve already fucked me,” my sister said in a voice of supreme unconcern, and I felt panic crawl over my skin at the idea of her leaving.
She has to be pretending. She can’t possibly be this indifferent to me.
“I want more than that,” I growled, crowding her on the pathway.
“What more?” she snapped back. “You’re officially a naughty bad boy, Teddy. You’ve fucked your sister. You broke that taboo. Every Christmas is going to be awkward from now on. But congratulations, you won. You got what you wanted. You got in my pussy.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” I snapped, grabbing her arm and whirling her around.
My heart was pounding so hard under my suit jacket that the blood thrummed in my ears.
“I don’t just want to fuck you for one weekend. I love you.”
Her mouth was a little round o, and I could see her pretty little pink tongue. God, I wanted that around my cock.
“Don’t be stupid,” she said, trying to shrug me off.
But I wouldn’t let her go.
“Understand this,” I said. “I will never let you go, Ophelia. You can go back to Chicago if you want. But you won’t go alone. I’ll be right fucking there with you, up your ass before and after every single class. So give up this idea that you are getting away from me, angel. I’d do anything to keep you.”
“Oo, Teddy,” she hissed, kicking at my shins with her adorable little toes. “Why are you like this? What do you mean you’d do anything to keep me? What’s anything?”
I let her kick me but she saw me hesitate.
“Tell me!” she yelped, grabbing me by the tie.
My feral simp urges take over with her hands on me, intense gray eyes demanding answers.
“I poked a hole in the condom last night,” I said. “I want to get you pregnant so you can’t get away from me.”
Ophelia’s jaw drops in outrage, and I accept her pummeling fists.
“I fucking hate you, Teddy! You’re such a controlling psycho jackass!”
My anxiety spikes at her words, and I know I’m taking her, keeping her, no matter what she says, but I can’t help myself.
“Come on, Ophelia! I’ll do all the work! I’ll get up in the night when our baby cries! I swear to God I will. I know you want kids! I don’t want you to be mad at me. You just can’t ever leave me.”
“I do want kids,” she cried. “I didn’t say with my insane fucking brother! Who stands for everything I hate!”
“I do not, Ophelia,” I said, seizing her in my arms as she tried to get away. I buried my face in her hair, tightening my hold on her struggling body. “You know I want the same things! I changed the rules so we don’t work with kill buyers! I want to make Barrington Stables the place that treats our thoroughbreds right, doesn’t discard them when they’re old or injured! There’s something I want to show you—”
But she broke in, shaking her head and thick hair all over my arms.
“Nothing you can say could make me change my mind!”
