“Right. Newbie mistake. You’ll help him through it though.”
“I will.”
“Here comes your boy. Have fun and don’t hurry back.”
“Thanks.”
Yannis walks up, smiling. “All done.”
I smile too, mentally pushing back the beast inside me clamoring just beneath the surface, hungry and horny for the beautiful man in front of me.
“Alright then, let’s be on our way.”
Gods of lore, how the hell will I make it through the night without biting him?
Chapter 13
Yannis
On the drive back to my apartment, the car is filled with a heavy silence. I don’t know what Hale is thinking, but I know what’s got me quiet. I want something to happen, I just wish I knew what. Do I tell him or show him?
Gazing out the side window, I watch the moon as it seems to follow us everywhere we go. The sky is pretty clear, and I bet the stars would look nice if we could see them. That’s another thing about the farm I didn’t appreciate until I moved away. I could always see the stars.
We arrive sooner than I expected, and as Hale pulls into a parking space my stomach does flips. This is it. I either let him go or I make a move. Both options are scary as fuck.
I turn to face him to find him watching me intently, like a wild cat stalking a gazelle. My cheeks warm and that tendril of heat twists its way through my body straight to my dick. Oh-kay.
“Do you want to come up and see my place?” I blurt it out before my brain can stop me.
“Yes” is all he says, but it’s the delivery—deep, rich, and confident—that gets me.
“Cool.”
We exit the car and head to my apartment. I wonder what he thinks about all this. I unlock my door with a shaky hand, hoping he doesn’t notice, then push open the door that sticks sometimes. Inside, Hale glances around briefly, then returns his gaze to me.
“It’s very nice inside.”
“Thanks. I know the neighborhood is a little sketch, but it was the nicest place I could afford. It was clean and nothing was broken. Some of the places I saw looked like crack houses.”
Hale smiles. “You made a good choice. This part of the neighborhood isn’t bad. It gets rougher a few blocks from here.”
“Yeah, I know. That’s where I ran into our Mafia friends.”
Hale’s eyes seem to harden for a second, but he blinks it away. “You feel safe though?”
“Yeah. Can I get you a drink? I think I have beer.”
“No, thank you.”
I nod, sliding my hands into my front pockets. “Uh, so…”
Hale takes a step toward me. “Do you have something you want to talk about, or do you want me to leave now?”
“Not leave. Um…” I glance at the couch. “We should sit for a minute.”
“Sure.”
Hale follows me to the couch while I wipe my sweaty hands on my jeans. My nerves are on fire, like the first time I had a crush back when I was a kid, but I’m a fucking adult and should be able to handle this.
