The annoyingly happy melody of Baby Shark shattered the moment. My phone was going off with Reece’s ringtone while Avery quivered beneath me. I wanted one more, but she propped herself up on her elbows and raised a brow.

“I assume that’s one of your roommates.”

“Fucking hell,” I ground out. “I’m going to kill Reece.”

Avery sent me a satisfied smirk. “His timing could have been worse.”

“Don’t move,” I ordered her, following it up with a long, slow lick that had her dropping back to the bed.

I levered myself up far enough to grab my phone from the nightstand and answered it without releasing my grip on her thighs. “Yeah.”

Reece didn’t waste time. “Mase is drunk, and I need your help.”

My jaw clenched. “How bad?”

“Not like last time, but close. I tried to get him into the car, and he threatened to take a swing at the next person who touched him, me included.”

Mase didn’t fuck around when he started throwing punches. When he fought, he did it with the intention of incapacitating his opponent. And he usually won.

I let out a quiet curse. “I’ll be right there. Don’t leave him alone.”

“No shit. Hurry.” Reece hung up without saying goodbye or questioning how my night was going, which told me he was as pissed as I was about the turn of events.

Avery’s fingers combed through my hair. “Everything okay?”

“No. I have to go help Mase.” I nipped her birthmark one more time and crawled up her body, settling between her legs for a slow, simmering kiss. “Stay. Please. This shouldn’t take long.”

Yearning clouded her eyes, but she shook her head. “I can’t. My dad’s expecting me home soon, and it sounds like my night of orgasms is coming to an end.”

“It doesn’t have to,” I offered, cringing a little at the pleading note in my voice.

Avery stroked her thumb over my stubble and I bent my head to kiss her hand. “It does. Everything ends, Cole, but thanks for proving me wrong. Orgasms are better with another person who knows what they’re doing.”

I wanted to tell her it was better because it was us, not because of any hidden talents, but we needed a lot more time than I had to hash out that conversation. Reece was waiting, and Mase was one drunken shove away from jail time.

Henry popped her head up over the edge of the bed with an annoyed quack, drawing both of our attention. She hopped up and wiggled her tail, tilting her head like she was confused about someone else being in her spot. A perfect excuse struck me, and I nodded at the duck.

“At least keep her company until I get back. She doesn’t like it when we all leave suddenly.” I started to assure her I wouldn’t pressure her to stay, but I already knew it was a lie. After tonight, I’d do everything in my power to keep her in my bed.

Henry chittered at Avery as if she knew she needed to sell it, and I silently promised her all the strawberries she could eat tomorrow.

Avery pressed her lips together and poked my chest. “Okay, but I’m making no guarantees about what’s going to happen when you get back. My dad knows I’m here, and I’m already going to have to sneak into the house with sex hair.”

She was right—her straight dark hair was teased up in wild waves from her thrashing—but I had no regrets.

“I’m happy to provide sex hair any time you ask… as long as you cuddle with me after.”

She snorted. “There you go, ruining it again.”

I allowed myself one slow roll of my hips to remind her what I had to offer, and she bit her lip as she arched up to meet me with a groan.

“Be here when I get back,” I growled into her ear, then climbed off the bed.

She watched me with hooded eyes for a long moment before crawling under the blankets and pulling them up to her chin. “We’ll be here, unless we get murdered while you’re gone.”

“Always a reasonable possibility.” I grinned as I brushed my lips across her cheek, happy I’d won this round. “Thanks, city girl. The code for my streaming account is four zeros. I’ll lock the door on my way out.”

With a mix of regret and awe, I left Avery in my bed, half-naked, with a pretty pink flush on her cheeks caused entirely by me. I probably had her lipstick smeared across my face, but I didn’t care. At least Reece would understand the severity of what he’d asked me to do.
