“You ready for this tournament?” Sledge asks, the bastard knowing he has it over us in size. However, you know what they say: the bigger the man, the harder the fall. He might be massive, but he won’t be as fast as the rest of us.

“I’m ready.”

“What does the winner get?” Zeke asks. “Besides bragging rights.”

“Let’s fight for Leah,” Bear comments, then runs as Dice starts going after him. He’s going to regret that comment when he steps into the ring.

We put Zeke against Dice first, and the fight gets bloody pretty soon, but neither of them wants to give up. Zeke ends up winning with one last punch to Dice’s stomach, which has him dropping to his knees.

I beat Bear, but not without working for it, and then I take on Zeke. We all fight each other in knockout rounds until it comes to me and Sledge, and I can’t help but have flashbacks to when I had to fight Stalk, one of Marko’s henchmen, a man who is even bigger and wider than Sledge.

I lost that one, but I’m not going to lose now.

Sledge swings his large fist out at me and I duck, get back up and hit him right in the gut. His knee comes up and I move back just in time, another punch narrowly missing the side of my head. We keep going like this, and I can see he’s getting tired, his movements becoming slower. Eventually I kick him in the stomach, then punch him in the head, and he goes down.

The men all clap, and I see Arrow leaning against the wall, watching us.

I don’t know when he’s going to step down and hand the MC over to me. Whenever he thinks I’m ready, I guess. I know I went off track with the Cara breakup, but now I’m moving forward from that and on with my life.

I haven’t spoken to Con since I left her house last weekend, and I think it’s for the best. I haven’t slept with anyone since her, which has been unlike me as of recent. I haven’t even got drunk. While the men have been giving me a little bit of shit about it, the lack of distractions is allowing me to concentrate on what’s most important—the Wind Dragons MC.

“My turn,” Sin calls out as he steps into the ring. He beckons Tracker forward with his hand. “Brother? Just like the old days.”

Tracker laughs and joins him. “All right. But Lana is going to kill you if you mess up my face.”

“Better duck fast then.”

The two of them play around, and we all watch, laughing at their antics.

This is our brotherhood, the brotherhood, and I’m not going to let anything stand in the way of it.

Chapter Seventeen

Con

“Are you all right?” Cara asks, brow furrowing as she touches my forehead. “Your temperature is fine.”

“Yeah, I just feel a little dizzy,” I reply, sitting back down on my bed and staring at the TV.

“I’ll get you some Tylenol,” she murmurs, heading to the kitchen to get some out of her handbag.

We went out for lunch where we discussed me looking at potentially selling the house, and then came back to my place to watch a movie and eat the cheesecake we bought on the way home. It’s been good, but also a little awkward at times. We haven’t mentioned Rhett once, and although it’s nice to pretend that never happened I think it’s also something we should be having another proper discussion about. However, I know she probably thinks she’s doing me a favor by not bringing it up. Decker came over yesterday and had a look at my roof, and was luckily able to fix the leak. So I got lucky for now, but it’s only a matter of time until the next thing falls apart.

She comes back to bed and hands me two little white tablets, and I swallow them with some of the water on my bedside table. “Thank you.”

To be honest I haven’t been feeling great all morning, and I have no idea what it is. I hope I’m not getting sick, because I don’t want to miss any days of work.

“I’m glad we stopped at that dessert place, because this cookies-and-cream cheesecake is amazing,” she says, smiling over at me. “You sure you’re okay?”

I nod. “Yeah, I just hope I’m not getting sick. And I agree. I’m definitely going to be going back for more.”

We sit silently for a while, eating our cheesecake.

“Do you want to talk about Rhett?” she suddenly asks, brow furrowing. “I know he is the elephant in the room here, but I wasn’t sure if you wanted to.”

“I think we should,” I agree, nodding. “I don’t want him to ever come between us.”

“He won’t,” she promises. “I just wanted to say that you don’t have anything to feel guilty about. It’s not the best situation, but it’s in the past. I don’t want things to be weird between us.”
