“Keep looking at me like that if you want to die,” Cara replies, still smiling.

Bear slaps Zeke on the chest. “Be respectful unless you want to deal with Rake.”

“Not just Rake—you’ll have every member coming down on your ass,” she says, standing in front of him. “Where’s Prez?”

“He’s inside,” Bear replies, looking over me curiously. “He know you’re here?”

“It’s a surprise,” I say, smiling and flashing him my teeth.

“She’s his woman, she doesn’t need an invitation,” Cara says, arching her brow. She takes my hand and leads me inside. “Well, looks like the party is still going.” We pass the living room and see naked bodies fast asleep there.

I start to feel a little sick at the sight. Why are they out here in public? Can’t they go to their rooms? Is this going to be my view every time I have breakfast?

I don’t even know what to say right now.

Rhett comes out of his room, bare chested and in nothing but a pair of basketball shorts. His eyes widen when he sees me, and he smiles. “Con? What are you doing here?”

“Surprise,” I say, glancing around as beautiful women in bikinis step into the house through the sliding door. At least they have something on. All while Rhett is wearing no shirt, showing off his six-pack abs and delicious body for all the thirsty women to see.

I don’t love it.

“Welcome to the clubhouse.”

“Can we talk?” I ask him.

“Yeah. Come on, we can talk in my room.”

I look at Cara, who nods, so I follow behind him down a long hallway. He opens one of the doors on the right, and I step inside to a modern, tidy bedroom, even bigger than my own, one with a massive king-size bed, and a TV that almost covers the whole wall.

Not what I was expecting.

This room could be in a display home, aside from the few items of clothing on the floor in the corner.

“I just wanted to come here today and just see for myself what it’s like here, and if I could live here. I asked Cara some questions, and I didn’t love the answers.”

“I’ll bet,” he replies under his breath.

“I mean, how would you feel if I was hanging out with men I’ve slept with before every other night? Men who are good-looking and barely clothed?” I ask him.

A muscle ticks in his jaw. “Yeah, I’d probably end up in prison.”

“Exactly. So I’m sure you can see this isn’t an ideal situation for me. There are so many beautiful women around here.”

“The most beautiful one is mine,” he says, taking my hand in his. “I’m not going to mess with us, Con. You have nothing to worry about.”

“Okay, but what would you do if we had just had a big fight, or were going through a rough patch or we hadn’t had sex in a while? Would you be tempted?” I ask quietly. “It’s easy to say no when we’re happy and still in the honeymoon stage. But I need to know that you will say no even if we’re not.”

Relationships go through ups and downs, and I don’t ever want to feel like if we have a fight or something he’s going to turn to other women. I need to be able to trust him and vice versa for this to work. We’re bringing a child into the mix, and everything is up against us. We need to stay strong, communicate and be honest with each other or we’re just going to end up breaking up and our child will have a broken family. I also don’t know if this is the best environment to have a baby in, especially if there are rowdy parties going on, but I’ll deal with everything as it comes.

“I promise that I will always choose you, and that I will be honest with you at all times, okay? I want this to work, too. I’m not perfect, but I’m trying,” he says, lifting my fingers to his lips and kissing them. “I don’t want anything except you. Now, come on, let me give you a proper tour of the clubhouse since the last time you were here it didn’t go so well.”

He shows me around the place, introduces me to everyone properly, as his woman, and then we order in some food and sit around their newly installed pool and enjoy the sunshine. The men are all nice, and a few of them make conversation with me.

Cara’s parents show up, and I meet them all for the first time. I know this whole thing has to be awkward for them, especially Rake and Bailey, so I make sure to not make any public displays of affection with Rhett.

“It’s nice to see you and Cara are getting close,” Bailey says, watching me. “I have to admit when she told me about you, I wasn’t so sure if it was a good idea or not.”

“I understand. Wade was not a great guy,” I reply, watching Cara sitting next to her dad, the two of them laughing about something. “And I know how weird it must be that Rhett and I...”
