“Hunter just gave me an update. Maddox told Mitch who told Caleb that if your boy had agreed to the ultimatum, the tape wouldn’t have gone public. Maddox thought Kye would cave. The whole thing about Softli was a bluff. When Kye knocked him back, Maddox reacted and emailed the tape everywhere. Before he could recall it and withdraw consent, it was too late.”
“My life got destroyed because Maddox was jealous?”
“Yeah. Look, Kye should have shot it down quicker, but the only reason the tape got out was because Maddox was jealous.”
“But what did Kye say, off tape?”
“He politely told Maddox to go fuck himself. Trust Hunter—he’s sure if you go out and be seen, Kye won’t be able to help himself. He’ll be in your face and you’ll be fucking—I mean, fighting—before you know it.”
“Oh, damn them all to hell and back,” I sighed. “I don’t know what to do. He’s been leaving messages but I don’t know how to call him and start the conversation. Kye kept asking me to trust him, and I didn’t.”
“How about you go out and be visible about it. He’ll hear about it and my money is on him finding you.” Olivia started to sing, “You dance a little, flirt a little, drive him mad with lust a little. That’s the story of, that’s the story of love.”
“My life is not a musical.”
“Go out, party and let him find you. Get him all worked up and come back home with us.”
“Why?”
“Has he ever told you how he feels?”
“No.”
“You’ve got two weeks until the final ceremony.”
“I know. Two weeks until he walks away and my marriage is over.”
“But what if he doesn’t want to leave?” Olivia leaned down until I couldn’t look her in the eye. “Hunter seems to think Kye’s got the genuine feels for you. Why don’t we goad him into admitting it. I guarantee if we get all the girls together and go out, men will follow. Jealousy is always a nice curse.”
“This could be fun.”
“Just so you know, it could backfire.” Jess warned. “If we go out and play up to the cameras, it won’t take long for Maddox to find out and track you down.”
“I’m not interested in Maddox.”
“Took you long enough to get over him.”
I thought back to the shoebox. Had it been about Maddox? I felt a wave of relief at my answer, “Actually it didn’t. It took me years to get over the hurt and the betrayal and not believing that I could trust someone.”
“And now?”
“I don’t know. Kye says one thing to me, shows one side to me, but the rest of the world is trying to show me something else.”
“Then, let’s have some fun finding out.”
Olivia started off sharing her wardrobe, throwing dresses and skirts at me. Then, Jess and Tash got in on the fun and decided that I need to slut it up.
No, skirt was acceptable unless it showed most of my thighs. Except for the teal leather skirt with a slit almost up to my panty line. Under their advice, my cleavage was bolstered and on full display. I put my body in the hands of my friends and they did not disappoint. I was primped, spray tanned and pampered to the enth degree.
Between Hunter, Caleb and their friends, we were on every A-List party Sydney had to offer.
My schedule was hardcore. Three changes of outfit each night with Olivia calling on her PR favors and Hunter borrowing his family’s driver and car for the two weeks.
Operation Kye Says I Love You was in full swing and I couldn’t be happier. Even if I didn’t get my man, at least I’d have fun trying.
For some reason, Kenzie and Benjamin were at all the same events, nightclubs and parties. Thanks to Olivia’s influence, all the cameras followed me. The owners of the clubs greeted me as an old friend. I’d forgotten that Hunter was good friends with CandyShop owner, Ibby Mercia. When we arrived, Ibby personally showed us through to the VIP area where another one of Hunter’s friends, Ronan, was waiting.
Four women escorted by the sexy Hunter and almost a dozen of his good-looking friends. We were the envy of the club.
