Talius sat back on his heels and started to undo the button of his jeans. I took advantage of the momentary distraction and jumping to my feet, raced for the bedroom. I made it there before him. Yes! My chest heaving from exertion and excitement, I edged away cautiously around the bed as Talius slowly stepped through the doorway, pinning me with his piercing blue eyes. Never taking his eyes off me, he kicked the door shut behind him. He didn’t need to lock it: the rest of the pack would never enter the Alpha’s bedroom if the door was shut.

I squealed as Talius made a sudden dash for me, his strong arms picking me up and tossing me onto the bed. He threw himself down beside me, one arm across my middle, caging me, and slanted his lips across mine. My lips parted and my tongue teased him, the kiss turning even hotter as his tongue forced its way inside my mouth, stroking and licking, dominating me in the way he knew I loved.

Breaking apart, we both frantically ripped our clothes off. I was trembling, my blood roaring through my veins, and slick running freely. Talius’ large muscular body loomed over me, his thick cock hard and eager, rubbing against mine. Restlessly I urged him on, running a foot up his leg and lifting my hips towards him. He nudged my legs apart and I spread them for him, moaning as he dipped his hand between them, gathering slick and then stroking my cock with his slick-coated hand. With his other hand, he lined himself up with my entrance and pushed in.

Then he proceeded to make me fall apart.

???

A couple of hours later, we were lying in bed, naked, sated, and legs tangled. A low grumble filled the room.

“Now I’d better do something about satisfying your other appetite,” I chuckled, stretching luxuriously. My inner wolf was feeling very satisfied and happy. Reluctantly, I dragged myself away from Talius’ warm body and began to pull my clothes back on, already planning in my mind what I’d cook for the household tonight. That thought reminded me about the omega I’d met at the supermarket today.

“I met an omega at the shops today,” I said. “Talius, he looked so sad, it was awful. I had to go talk to him.”

“Of course, you did.” Talius smiled fondly at me. He knew I had really strong comfort instincts, even for an omega. “And what did he tell you?”

“Nothing really. That he’s just moved here. And that he lives up the mountain.”

“Maybe he’s lonely.”

“Perhaps. I don’t know, though, it was weird. He… he had a mating mark, but he was trying to hide it. He seemed… well, ashamed of it, or something.”

“Mmm,” Talius looked surprised, but then he shrugged. “Oh well, I’m sure you’ll find a way to make friends with him…”

My mate knew me well. I was already thinking up ways to meet this sad omega again. Maybe I could find out what was wrong. Maybe there was something I could do to make him feel better. Maybe he really did just need a friend.

Chapter 02

IRIAN

Although I made a couple more trips into town that week, it wasn’t until exactly a week later that I saw Isca again. It was Tuesday and I made a mental note that this was probably his weekly shopping day, and although last week had been an aberration for me – I normally did the grocery shopping on Thursdays - that I should change mine to match. I figured that as an omega, he was probably the one shopping for his household. Not that he had to, necessarily. I certainly knew alphas and betas that did their own shopping, but we omegas were caregivers by nature and what greater care was there than providing good food for one’s pack?

Okay, so I might have driven into town earlier than usual, and I might have been sitting out in my car in the carpark surveilling the supermarket entrance. And yes, I suppose it was a bit stalkerish, but I honestly didn’t know how else to find him and I was worried. I’m not very good at minding my own business.

I was so busy keeping an eye on the doors, that I nearly missed the blue van pulling up further down the carpark, out of which stepped Isca, looking as downtrodden as the first time I saw him. After he’d gotten out, the car sped off and as it roared past me, I sneaked a look at his travel companions. The driver was a different guy this time, not as fierce looking, but rough and with a cruel face. There were two other rows of seats in the vehicle and I got a glimpse of several other unpleasant looking characters sitting in the back. I shivered. Isca seemed like a sweet, innocent young man. It struck me as weird that he was hanging out with these types. And yeah, yeah, I knew I shouldn't judge on appearances but still...

Slipping out of my car, I hurried across to the shop entrance, where Isca was listlessly detaching a trolley from the line of empty shopping trolleys.

“Hey, Isca!” I said, perhaps a smidgeon too loudly, because he jumped. But when he saw me, his eyes lit up. He seemed pleased to see me.

“Hey. Um… Irian, right?” he asked in that soft, melodic voice of his.

“That’s right,” I beamed at him. “Are you shopping for your pack? Want to shop together?”

He hesitated. Then a small smile turned up the corners of his mouth. “Yeah, that would be good.”

I snagged a trolley for myself and we went in.

“How are you settling in?” I asked him as we wandered round the shop, gradually collecting the items we wanted. Isca was working off a shopping list, marking things off as he found them. “Have you seen more of the area yet?”

He shrugged. “It’s alright. I don't go off the property except for the weekly shopping.”

“Oh! But then you’re not meeting anyone,” I exclaimed, appalled.

“I met you,” he said, defensively.

“Have you met anyone else?” I demanded.
