“Two to three, five days a week. We also rent out the space to people who need a rehearsal area for indie projects. Small stuff, but it brings in additional income. Lexi is really great at the books, but neither of us are fantastic with marketing.”

“Maybe I can help?” He squints into the sun. “Now that I’m retired.”

I laugh and poke him in the side. “You are not retired! You’re going to do shows at the Alliance with me. We have never danced together, Logan. That has got to change.”

Eyeballing me with amusement he says, “You’re more assertive since I left.”

“If you stopped dancing, it would be a tragedy. And singing!”

“I’ve had enough of the stage.”

“Liar!” Tugging on his hand I stop in the middle of the parking lot. The sun is at his back giving him a halo effect as he listens. “I bet you’re tired. But they wouldn’t have offered you the lead in a successful production like that if you weren’t made to dance.”

“It has an age limit.”

“Which you’re nowhere near! And singing doesn’t! I know it’s just Atlanta, and I am not Ines, but dancing with you on the stage here would make me very happy. Musicals come through here all the time. We don’t have to leave with them.”

He puts his finger to my lips. “What makes you think Ines was better than you?” Before I can answer he kisses me so passionately that my brain goes gooey. Someone honks at us and we ignore them. But it turns out it’s Lexi, and she will never be ignored.

“Get a room!” she shouts from her new Audi, parking it in the space five feet from where we stand.

Logan looks over at her with fake disdain. “How does she do that? Does she have a teleportation device hardwired to know when I’m near you? Nice car.”

“She was jealous of Elizabeth’s, so naturally she knew what to do.” Logan cocks an eyebrow. I explain, “Jealousy is a map that shows you what you want.”

Lexi heard me say that, and is of course very familiar with the Cocker family belief on this subject. As her door automatically shuts behind her and she walks toward our studio, she finishes the philosophy, “Jealousy doesn’t have to be some stupid vicious thing. It doesn’t have to mean you don’t want the other person to have it. If you’re acting like that, you’re a dick. We believe that jealousy just shows you what you want and then you go get your own.” Walking backward a moment, she points at Logan. “And I will always be nearby. Didn’t I say, get used to it?”

“You did, and uh yeah…I won’t.”

She laughs and flips him off. “Glad you’re back!” As he turns toward what is now my car, she lifts an eyebrow to me because soon will be the time when Logan and I take this to a deeper level. Ahem.
