The address is reeled off, I plug it into the navigation system glad to see it’s only maybe ten minutes away.

“Okay, taking a look here she is in debt. Damn Harvard medical school is crazy. Her student loans are enormous. One is two hundred seventy-two thousand forty-two dollars and nineteen cents. The other is five hundred nineteen thousand eight hundred sixty-seven dollars and eleven cents. That’s just her student loans, she also has seven, nope, eight cards that carry balances of more than ninety-one thousand.”

“Get me the information for payoff on the two student loans, send it to my email. Thanks.” I end the call as I pull up outside the sagging older apartment building.

I knock on the door. A few seconds later the door opens a crack. She’s young, maybe late twenties. “Dr. Michelle Huber?”

She nods. “Can I help you?”

“I think we can help each other. Can I come in?” I don’t miss the way she looks me up and down before finally nodding and opening her door for me to enter.

Interesting, she waits for me to speak. Smart. “My fiancée is Carina Parker. I believe she will make an appointment with you soon. She will ask you for birth control. You aren’t going to give her any. I want you to push the shot, then I want you to give her anything but the birth control shot. Make it a B-12 shot, an antibiotic, I don’t care if it’s saline. As long as it’s not birth control.”

Crossing her arms across her chest, she frowns. “Why do you think that’s something you can ask me to do? If Carina needs protection, I’m going to give it to her.”

“Seven hundred ninety-one thousand nine hundred nine dollars and thirty cents is why. Your current combined student loan debt.” She stiffens. “I’ll pay off two hundred seventy-two thousand forty-two dollars and nineteen cents Monday, as soon as the banks open. If Carina never calls you, you get to keep it. No matter what it’s done. However, you do what I ask and I will pay off the other one the day you call me to tell you did what I’m paying for.”

Her brown eyes go wide. She turns away from me.

I don’t have time for this. Taking out my wallet I drop my card on the table she has by the door. “Here’s my card. Call me and confirm and your loan will be paid before the end of the day.”

Leaving, I’m aware I might have made her an enemy but she will call me. I saw it in her eyes, it’s why she turned away.

On the drive back to the hotel I call in and have the jet prepared and flight plan filed.

Up in my room, I undress and step into the scalding hot shower. My chest twists as I clean up and find the blood again. That was a lot of fucking blood. I can’t believe she didn’t tell me—no. I’m not thinking of it until I’m calm enough I won’t fuck up.

Getting dressed and checking out takes twenty minutes. By the time I’m downstairs again one of Milos’s men is waiting to take me to the commuter airport and retrieve the car to return to Milos.

I’m grateful the guy doesn’t talk much. All I want is for him to take me back to Carina. Except I don’t trust I’m not going to say or do something I’ll regret.

For her sake and mine, I need to get as far away from her as I can. Maybe, fifteen hundred miles and four states will be far enough.

CHAPTER 14

Sandro

When I land in Vegas, I’m met with fires that need to be put out and men who need to be assured my taking over won’t be any different than when Luca was in charge. My sister is hiding from me but I don’t have time to think about it.

It’s late and I’m tired. All I want to do is crash but sleep isn’t going to happen for hours. I call Carlo’s house. Cassandra answers and is surprised by me wanting to talk to Carina. I’m not surprised when she says Carina won’t answer the door. I tell her I want Carina to have a phone, no internet but I want her to be able to text. To give me the number tomorrow.

I fall into bed more than twenty-four hours after I got out of it. I hope it means I won’t think of Carina. I’m not that lucky. Every moment of making her mine replays in my head, from the slap she gave me, to the way her skin tasted, and how she trembled beneath my touch. I wince when I remember how I thrust inside her for the first time—the way her body fought me. But I will never forget the moment when she let me inside or the way she shattered around my cock. My woman, mine. No one has ever known her and no one will.

It's pathetic how pleased I am when Cassandra texts me with the phone she got for Carina. I call her, no answer. Taking a deep breath, I text her.

Carina, talk to me. Please

Still no answer. Frustration seethes through me. A dozen things come to mind before quickly being discarded. Until the perfect one is written.

How soon before you know if you’re pregnant?

A chuckle escapes me at imagining how her beautiful face will scrunch with anger.

It’s bullshit! You said you’d give me a few years before me getting pregnant. You said I’d get my own room then you tell me it’s not happening. This isn’t fair!

Satisfaction fills me. I’ll take Carina anyway I can get her. If I need to get her angry then I’ll do it.

I never said I would play fair. I’m quite willing to do whatever it takes to keep you. Warning: I want three girls.
