“Exactly,” he agreed. “Think of it as practice for later. As soon as I get you home, you’ll be riding me again.”
Chapter Twenty-Eight
Rebecca
Resting against the leather seat, Rebecca’s head was spinning. Had any of that happened or was it only the product of her over-active imagination?
Imagination, she concluded as she blew out a breath. It must be my imagination.
She hadn’t really just climbed on to the back of a gigantic dragon, just like that same animal hadn’t morphed back into the man she was falling in love with. None of that was possible.
“Rebecca?” Sebastian shifted into gear before reaching for her knee. He’d dressed after his transformation and ushered her back to his car. “Are you okay?”
“I…” Hesitating, she realized she was frowning. Am I okay? “I think I’m in shock.”
“Understandable.” He squeezed her knee tenderly. “You’ve got a lot to think about.”
That was the understatement of the millennium. Her new dashing and dominant man was actually part-dragon! She’d cowered when he’d initially transmuted, her mind blown at what she was witnessing, but after hearing a gravellier version of Sebastian’s voice coming from the dragon’s jaws, she’d realized it truly was him. She had no idea how, but somehow the beast was Sebastian. That knowledge had empowered her to move closer and touch him. The creature she’d only seen in movies was real and the spirit of the man she desired was inside of it. It made no sense, but it was true, and her brain still ached at the enormity of what that meant.
But he shared his secret with me. Her lips twisted at the confirmation. He trusts me.
“I can’t wrap my head around it.” It was cathartic to admit. “It feels like a dream.”
“I get it.” His voice was wistful as he concentrated on the road. “Sometimes, I still can’t wrap my head around it.”
“I bet.” Reaching for his hand, she stroked his thumb. He was still Sebastian and one hundred percent of the man who’d driven her insane with lust and devotion. Somehow, he was both man and beast. “I’m thankful that you showed me.”
She could only imagine how much bravery it must have taken Sebastian to reveal such a fundamental secret.
“You’re welcome.” He smiled, visibly relaxing at her praise. “You’re worth it.”
“Where do we go from here?” she asked, her heart hammering at the question.
Where do I want it to go?
Rebecca couldn’t imagine a future without him. In only a few short days, she’d become consumed by Sebastian, and the worst of it was, she was thrilled with her new obsession. She welcomed the takeover. It wasn’t only that she was running from her family, although she acknowledged that she was, it was what Sebastian represented—hope and opportunity– all of the things that, despite her family’s wealth and influence, had previously been denied to her.
“That’s up to you.” His voice was calm, but beneath its smooth façade, she recognized the tiniest of tremors. He was nervous then. This mattered to him as well. “It depends on what we both want.”
“What do you want, sir?” Steering the conversation back to the sexual spark between them was safe territory, somewhere she was comfortable and could revel in her submission.
“Oh, little girl.” His chuckle deepened, sending shivers racing along her backbone. “I want to devour you, but I need to know what you want as well.”
“You.” Gripping his palm, she swallowed back the rush of emotion. “I want you, Sebastian, and I don’t know how that looks in real terms, but it’s true.”
“That makes me so happy.” His grin grew. “And horny.”
“Me, too.”
She laughed, her awareness returning to the needy ball of nerves he was yet to satisfy. Her brush with familial danger and then the dragon had all but extinguished her volcanic desire, but as she’d learned, Sebastian could re-ignite it with as little as one seductive glance. The man was insatiable, and she bloody adored him.
“And the dragon?” His fist gripped the wheel a little tighter. “I know it’s a lot, but do you think you can learn to love him too?”
“He’s incredible.” She shook her head, still unable to rationalize what she’d seen. “Terrifying, but utterly compelling.”
Sebastian’s hand lowered to her thigh and caressed her through her denim. “I meant what I told you.” His voice oozed with resolve. “I will never harm you, little girl.”
“I know.” Deep in her soul, she had complete faith in Sebastian’s vow. “That’s why I’m still here and not running for my life.” She giggled at the analogy, leaning back against his leather. The urge to flee would have been natural, but she couldn’t even contemplate not being at his side.
