“You’re doing an excellent job,” he assured her. “I haven’t felt this good about my life for a long time.”

“Cole.” Her eyes squeezed shut, allowing her thoughts to flow. Oh God. What’s he doing to me? A pause as she inhaled. What am I doing?

“I promise I won’t bite.” For now. Reaching one hand toward hers, his fingertips grazed her long, manicured nails, imagining her digits wrapped round the root of his cock.

Oh God. Gulping, her eyes flew open as she jerked her hand away from him. “Okay, look.” Her breathing was labored as she turned to explain. “I’ll be honest with you. Yes, I find you attractive, but we can’t do this. I’m here as a professional.”

“Do what?” His brow rose, daring her to say the words aloud. She’d come close, but did the delectable brunette who’d captivated him really have the courage to admit what she wanted? Or was he going to have to provide some impetus? “Sit on the sofa together?”

“You know what I mean.” She shook her head, sighing with exasperation, although he noticed the tiny smile at her lips.

“Sit with me and we’ll talk.”

That was an order—the first he’d given and he watched with interest to see how she would respond. Her brows knitted initially, conveying the conflict playing out in her thoughts, but when he traced his finger along hers a second time, she didn’t recoil, allowing him to grasp her hand to tug her toward the seat.

“Cole.”

Resignation echoed in her tone as her pert little ass hit the seat, but Cole heard traces of something else, something he’d longed to hear ever since he’d first set eyes on her.

Lust.

She wanted him, too. Even she had said she found him attractive. Suddenly, the possibility of getting everything he wanted was sprawled out in front of him.

“I could lose the career I love.” She pulled in a shaky breath at the unsettling thought. “Over what? What is this? A dalliance?”

“No one will ever know,” he purred, though still he resisted the overwhelming impulse to move closer. “I won’t tell anyone, and neither will you.”

“We’ll know.” She shook her head. I’ll know! “I can’t cross ethical lines with my clients.”

“I’ll find a new therapist.”

He hadn’t intended to suggest it, but staring into her eyes, the solution was obvious. Yes, she was wonderful at her job, but he wanted her on the end of his dick more than he needed therapy.

“But we’re making progress.” Her frown created creases in her otherwise flawless forehead.

“I agree.” Smiling, he squeezed her delicate fingers. “You’re fabulous, but we can’t deny how we feel.”

“Damn it, Cole.” Snatching her hand away, she glared at him with such intensity that he swore he could sense the passion radiating from her in waves. “That’s not how this works. I can’t just fall into the arms of every hot guy who comes walking into my office.”

“There are no others,” he inched his way along the sofa. “You said so yourself.”

“I didn’t say that.” Wait, did I say that? How the hell does he always know what I’m thinking?

As though she needed time to think through the queries, she closed her eyes again, and in her mind, she recalled some of their prior conversations. So embroiled was she with the evaluation, that she didn’t notice as Cole slid closer, and by the time she opened her eyes he was right there beside her. Her breaths came faster as she acknowledged his proximity, but she didn’t try to move or push him away.

“There’s only one way to know if this is worth losing the best therapist I’ve ever had.” Lifting his finger, he brushed the side of his hand along her heated cheek, reveling in her dismayed thoughts.

Oh God, he’s going to kiss me! He’s going to kiss me, and I’m not moving! Why am I not moving?

“Shhh,” he told her, stroking the loose strands of her dark curled hair from her face before his hand slid to her nape. “You think too much.”

Cole just had time to acknowledge the bewilderment in her eyes before he swooped for their first kiss.
